I believe it is the Jamaican dollar. I'm not sure, but I would think that most of the tourist areas would accept American currency.

The Jamaican Dollar is weak compared to the american dollar and all tourist places will accept it to boost foreign exchange. The economy in Jamaica is weak.

The currency is the Jamaican dollar, but its not worth anything. You'll have to carry thousands of J$ around to pay for anything. Better to just use American dollars because they accept that everywhere on the island.

A word of warning, though. Don't go walking around alone outside the tourist areas there with lots of cash on you. And take only enough money that you think you'll need when you go (preferably travelers checks) and lock up your passport and valuables like jewelry in the hotel safe if you're going on sightseeing tours. Most Jamaicans are decent people, the place is beautiful, and you'll have a lot of fun, but the crime there gets pretty bad sometimes.
