What is there to do on a vacation in Puerto Rico?

My family and I are going on a vacation to San Juan, and we're wondering if there are any suggestions as to what we can do while on vacation. Our family includes a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, so if there is anything that would appeal to this age level, please suggest it.

There is so much to do on the island! I suggest renting a car if you would like to venture out. Otherwise there are guided tours, but they can get pricey if you want to see everything.

Well while your in San Juan, visit 'El Morro' the old war fort built to protect the island. It is huge & gorgeous, sitting right on the ocean front. Walk the colorful streets of old San Juan & shop & see the spanish architecture. There is an old Cathedral(the first church in the new world!) & the casa blanca & paseo la princesa.

Then venture off, go to 'El Yunque' Rain forest. & bring sneakers b/c it's wet. It is amazing. Then you can go to Luquillo beach right near the rain forest. One of the best beaches on the whole Island. Other great beaches are on seperate islands called Culebra & Vieques.

And you need to go to one of the Bioluminescent Bays. There are 3 in PR of on 6 in the world! & they are the best in PR. There is one called La Parguera, in the souther part of the island or one on vieques Island called Mosquito puerto Bay. The water glows in the dark at night when you touch it, it is great! Take a small boat or kayak so you can touch it, not a glass bottom boat. The kids will love it I am sure!

Also Camuy caves are beautiful! It is a huge cave system & you need to take a tram down to it. Tours for everything are in english as well as spanish. Most people on the island speak english or some, especially in cities. Also eat the local cuisine. Puerto rican food is absolutely delicious! Not spicey, just flavorful! Even eat at kiosk food stands on the road sides, b/c this is some of the best food!

Of course there are great beaches all over & tons of water sports for the kids to enjoy. There are always festivals going on too.

I have been to these places and all are open for the whole family to enjoy. We also have the Tren Urbano or Urban Train that runs from Stop26 Santurce to the center of Baymon. It is a wonderful ride, the price is$1.50 per person one way. But which ever place you visit I am sure you and your family will enjoy your stay.

HI,

Try snorkeling, or take one of those 1 day Scuba Diving
crash courses. The ocean is fun and full of lots of
interesting things to see, from a safe depth that is.
Try it!

Mike
Go to the beach, rainforest, snorkeling, rent some jet skis, etc.

Get around the island and check it all out.

Do this , be prepared and u are not going to regret your trip. also TAKE PICTURES!!!!!!! beaches are beautiful and if like exploring u will like the caves, if you like history go to san Juan, specially EL Morro. Puerto Rico is beautiful. You definitely wanna go to the beach. Also book a day tour of El Yunque, a rain forest in the middle of the island. Visit the sites like Camino de la Princesa for great pictures(free), the forts (entrance only a few dollars), Bacardi factory (like 15bucks), and the shops and restaurants in Old San Juan (the bars @night).

2-got to the beach.*the water is cristal clear!*
3-go to have a pinacolada =]]
4- walk around.there are many landmarks and important things to learn there!!

have fun!

Go to the beach of course! Maybe rent a boat and go fishing, and just enjoy the gorgeous ocean.

My Three
Oh my god San Juan is beautiful. I don't know where you are staying but The Hilton Caribe in San Juan is so beautiful and they have a private beach. It's a little pricy but well worth it. It I think a 5 star hotel and when my office went it was less than 200 a night. But they have beautiful hotels all over San Juan and they get very cheap if you get one about 2-3 blocks from the beach. But make sure those have air conditioning some have that whole lets get back to nature experience and don't have air conditioning.

As for activities, Dinning out is so cheap and of course the food is great. The hotels are filled with restaurants or you can go walking through old San Juan and find the wonderful smells of restaurants on every block.

Oh and the jewlery is great and right on the beaches they have fresh rolled cegars that are rolled right in front of you by old men. We got that as a gift for my cegar smoking boss he loved it.

As for the kids they have scuba diving, all type of day boat trips and some hotels have day planners so you just give the ages and you are set.

Now I don't want to fear you as beautiful as the island is be careful every place has the bad area so know where your family is at all times.

And if you can try to go to the west coast of the island some of the best surfing in years has been reported to be in Aguadilla, PR. But that is about a 3 hour drive from San Juan but is Surfing is your passion it's well worth the trip.

Enjoy and have a nice stay in Puerto Rico
