What island in caribbean suffers most hurricane damage?

It changes every year, depending on the paths of the Hurricanes.

But Cuba seems to get hit the most. Even more than Florida does.

One island that doesn't get hit a lot is Blessed Harouin, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Hurricanes often go above and below SVG, but fortunately, it doesn't get hit very often.

Barbados Chick
In recent history that woud be Grenada who is still struggleing to rebuild after being hit in 2005 & 06. We were just there and it is very sad to see people still living under blue tarps, pulling their water from stand pipes along the road, cooking over wood fires and I have no idea what they are using for latrines.
Their spice trade / industry was destroyed and will take years to recover - thus tourism is very important.
However, having said that, the people are very friendly and eager to interact with visitors. So go if you get the chance.

Haiti. I think God is trying to clean up the place.

Bermuda can get hit pretty badly, most recently '03.

Grenada seems to have been hit the worse. They suffered major damage a couple of years ago, with Hurricane Ivan damaging a large percentage of homes and businesses (around 80%). It took many months for the island to restore power to everyone.

Places such as Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Caymans, the Bahamas(technically not the Caribbean), and the Virgin Islands tend to sustain more damage as the hurricanes travel over warm water and build up speed vs islands such as Trinidad and Barbados who rarely see any major damage(located in Southeastern Caribbean). Cuba & Jamaica are larger than Grenada so the damage a hurricane causes will be of a lesser percentage than the smaller Grenada. They also have larger hills which can protect other parts of the island from sustaining as much damage (though that's not to say it will protect the part that the hurricane does hit).

it would be the island that has gone longest since it was last hit....people forget just how bad a storm is, and get slack on building.....St Thomas hadn't been hit in 75 years before Marilyn came through in 1995 and destroyed 70% of the buildings. We had the fear of God put into us and really overbuilt when we rebuilt........bolts instead of nails, as an example......Since then we've had Bertha,Georges and Lenny with hardly any problems.

Same deal with Grenada..they hadn't had a storm since Christ was a Corporal......in fact, some insurance agencies considered them far enough south to be "out of the hurricane belt".....then Ivan went through three years ago and KABOOM!

because hurricanes tend to curve a little north on their way across the Atlantic, islands north of Dominica get more hits then those south.......but amount of damage depends on how prepared you are, and how bad you got whacked last time.

check out the National Hurricane Center www.nhc.noaa.gov for storm history and tracks
