What kind of buying power does the dollar have in Dominican Republic? |
I am going to the Dominican Republic Santo Domingo and was curious how much I could buy with a dollar, how cheaper the prices are, ect. Help would be nice, thanks

The exchange rate right now is 33.4. it vary with everyday. With a dollar you can buy a coke 20 ozs., a baguette, a coffe, pay peaje, a pineapple, avocado, chips, water, (most of these goods are less than a dollar depends where you buy it)local food it is from 3US$ to 5US$., Eating red snapper, sea bass or shrimp from 12US$ to 18US$.
Local food is cheap. import goods $$. gas it is about 5US$, a lit. of milk cost more than a dollar. |

They won't make you a king here for a dollar nor can you get 33.85 for a dollar. Rate today is about 33.35.
They will give you more peso for the US dollar than a Canadian Dollar which is higher than the US dollar.
Things are expensive here now. 6 pack of domestic beer is about 270 pesos in a supermarket. Imported stuff is expensive. Haagen Daas pint is about 7 dollars. American Cheese is about 2 bux a pound.
Locally grown food is inexpensive. Chicken with small salad and rice and beans is about 3 dollars at a Dominican Restaurant. Beer in a Bar is about 2.75 dollars.
Transportation is cheap although gas is 5 bux a gallon.
