There is no "official" dance for Calypso unless you want to consider what we call "wining" (gyrating the hips) the official dance. Even that isn't accurate because you can definitely dance to Calypso without wining. To be honest it isn't a "learned" thing, its more about just feeling the music if that makes any sense. I don't think anyone can teach you how to dance to Calypso per se. No one taught us locals. You just have to let the music take over and do your thing. My advice is to you is to make sure you're in time with the music and just have fun with it. Calypso is very forgiving, you can dance to it almost anyhow and get away with it :-)

I would agree with Gibbsy. You have to feel the music and let it take over your body. My advice would be to be aware of the feeling in your arms. Lots of non locals let the music take their arms away and it's quite a funny site to see people pumping their arms and fists in the air like they swatting mosquitos. Start with "chipping" your feet. That is just a one two step with the feet.

curious!

It is hard to decribe the dance since it is usually unique to the person singing it - kinda like their own style

I guess the calysponian Shadow has the most simple dance - going up on your toes and back down over and over agin on the same spot!

We also have ones like soca bugle, butterfly, and others but I suggest that you go on you tube and view them to know and see for yourself

As Gibbsy said there is no official dance to calypso, you just got to go with the flow. Listen to the calypso music and do your own thing, just go with the beat, if you feel to move your hips from side to side an then to the center , go for it, if you feel like jumping and shouting , go for it, it's all about how you feel while you're listening to the music.. I personally can't listen to calypso music without dancing or moving my hips back and forth. Follow your heart and just enjoy the music and have fun with it.

Like my fellow Trinidadians said, there is no special dance to go with Calypso music. We're a pretty creative bunch of people and we more or less just dance in our own special way. You can shake your waist, gyrate your hips, jump up and down (if it's a song with a fast pace) or you can just bop your head in time with the music. Create your own style and just do your own thing. :-)

That would be calypso. You should check out Byron Lee and The Mighty Sparrow. They are very good calypso singers.
