Its Very Hot In Jamaica
All types, shapes sizes and colours, design styles etc but it is true that we generally do not make basement or even attics. Hurricane Katrina did not affect the island of Jamaica at all.

MOSTLY MADE OF CONCRETE BLOCKS, STEEL

There are big houses and little houses. Houses made of wood and houses made of concrete blocks and cement. There are houses that are tiny and humble and houses that seem to be majestic palaces. And there are all the houses that fall in between these descriptions. I think Shasha means hurricane Ivan. That is the most recent hurricane to really affected the island. Katrina was far from us.

most houses are made out of concrete and steel because of the prevalence of hurricanes especially if you live on the coast.

I have realised that in recent years more and more people have been using board, I see Franklyn D resorts made a wonderful board structured hotel outside of falmouth. I wondered to myself the amount of trees used to construct that building, beautiful non-the-less.

I realise that in America that they use very light materials and wood. Such construction would not be appropriate there because of the danger of huricanes.

Concrete blocks and steel and are most time 2 stories and the furnitures are lavish and expensive and most family have two vehicles.

All types of housing. Beach houses,e state houses. Most Jamaican homeowners tend to be very proud of their property.

it depends on where u go cuz if u go to the bad places u will see the house make out of zinc and when it rain it gets rusty and all dat and if u at close beside a beach area its like a hut mostly make out of bomboo and tash leaves from big palm trees, and if u live in da country most of the houses are made out of blocks and woods and some places got outside bathrooom while other have inside it all depends where u live and the amount of money you got or the job u have. they are upstairs houses but they dont have basement.

where I was visiting my friends and their families were in the process of rebuilding a lot of their homes damaged by hurricane [Katrina} they are using concrete blocks ,and adding rooms on as needed or as afforded..I did n't see any built of wood in my own personal travels, but I am told some do.Obviosly they don't need insulation... and no they do not live in huts as I have seen mentioned here.small maybe...but they are very resourceful and not once did I hear anyone complain about what they didn't have.tiles are used on the floors and some walls...then there are the homes that are built by those who have left ,made money and come home to live, and also outsiders are buying property there too,so their homes are more lavish.
