The money is the Dominican Peso Value 31.80 for 1 US
you can buy in banks and also at your resort, but the best way is with your credit card so you get the best rate. Don´t change money on the streets they promise more but some are thieves.

They use Dominican Pesos. You can buy them in any bank. You could also use American dollars if you stay in a hotel or such. They are used to tourists.

The peso de oro is the money. I would suggest exchanging dollars at a bank. Cambio places can give better rates but if you are not sure they are reputable stick with a bank or Western Union(not in the street and sometimes the hotels do not give the best rate). If you use pesos you will be sure to get the best deal because if you pay in dollars many places will not give the correct exchange rate. If you use a credit card be careful because DR is known for credit card theft. And your credit card will usually charge you a fee for use in another country. Many places outside of the tourist areas don't take any type of card.
The average exchange rate for dollars (it goes up and down slightly) is between $31 and $32 pesos per $1 dollar.

The Dominican Republic currency is the Dominican peso.
The value of $ 1.00 dollar is approx. 32.15 Dominican pesos.
Dollars and other currencies are accepted, too. There are some places where you can pay with dollars or other currencies and they give you the change in Dominican pesos.
