I would choose Puerto Rico. Bahamas are nice but its really just a resort & a beach. Puerto Rico has so many things to do & see that you will have a blast. San Juan is a big city with restaurants, nightlife, shopping, casinos, etc. Plus they have lots of gorgeous historical sites like El Morro Fort. There is El Yunque rain forest where you can hike & swim in waterfalls. Camuy Caves are marvelous & they have the biggest radio telescope in the world in Arecibo. Puerto rican culture is so rich, the food is delicious, the music is fun & the people are friendly also. Watch the video to see a sneak peak:

(& by the way- PR is not 1 land mass, they have lots of small islands like Vieques, Culebra, Mona, Desecheo, Gilligans island, caja de muertos, palomino, Icacos, etc) |

I was in the Bahamas the last week of Feb. this year and am going back the last week of Feb 09. It was fantastic and I don't know where the crime alert comes from but I didn't see it and would recommend it. |

Do you have a passport? If you do not then PR is your choice. I lived in Nassau for 2 years and it is a very crowded expensive place. I tell people if you want to go to the Bahamas then go to the out Island, the family islands. The out islands are relaxing and great for a vacation.
Both places have problems with crime, but as you would in any large city be aware of your surrounding and stay out of areas you know you should not be in and you wil be ok. When somebody says come with me I want to show you something and starts taking you down a dark alley.. don't go. |

I'm going to say the Bahamas. Two of my dearest friends have been there, and although they said it was a bit expensive, it was worth every penny. They both commented on how clean everything is there - especially the water. It's unbelievable. Plus, the culture is very friendly, which makes traveling to the area great. |

If you are considering these two options I think that it would be good for you to know that the Bahamas consist of 700 Islands and Cays unlike Puerto Rico which is only one land mass. In the Bahamas you will have the opportunity to cruise the blue green sea and see the beauty of these Islands and perhaps stop and mingle with the people and sample the Culture on the Islands of your Ports of Call.
Nassau is the Capitol city of the Bahamas. |
