Baby!!!!!! I was wondering just yesterday where you were!
Firstly, don't believe the reports. I have also heard they found a reserve of natural gas off of the northern coast of Tobago which is supposed to last for another 50 years. Only God knows when our oil and natural gas supply will end.
Secondly, if they are depleted, we will have to revert to what we used to export beforehand. We still are competitive in agriculture and we can boost up our tourism. We have lots to offer outside of petroleum. |

I agree with jouvert. I don't think our supply of oil and gas is going to run out for a very long time. But when it does, we can always switch to asphalt. After all, the Pitch Lake in La Brea is always refilling itself since it's a natural deposit. We also have soil that is very rich in minerals and we can grow virtually anything. Tobago can survive very well on its tourism. And remember oil and gas aren't the only natural resources we've got. There's also ethanol (we've got a plant right here in Point Fortin....I think we're actually one of the largest producers of ethanol in the world.) |

curious!

I agree with Jouvert and Petra as well!
My two cents though is that we have lots of land for agri purposes - we should start producing crops to export to other countries. We have the space for it and it irks me to see how we import stuff when it can be grown locally like bananas and other fruits.
Firstly our Agriculture Sector |

The powers that be, seem to have realised that natural resources are not going to last forever, and as such has actually started looking towards other sources of income to support the country.
its seems that agriculture is going to be out next "cash cow" with talks about buying large plots of land in Guyana and having farming experts from Cuba show us how to make agriculture and farming a viable solution / alternative.
our economy is diversifying, pretty soon it will no longer be only the energy sector we are depending on, but we will also have the agricultural sector and tourism - to a very small extent. Our hurman resource capacity is also growing as there is easier access to tertiery education and all that.
