What would be good small gifts for maids in the Dominican all-inclusive resort?

I agree with most here who have said a cash tip. I know in the past I have brought down things for people who work at the resorts and it's sometimes a hassle for them.

I've been asked to write a note stating my name, room number and exactly what I have given them so that they can leave the resort with it and not be accused of stealing from a guest.

I also think that it is nice for the maids to have those luxury items, and certainly young women who don't yet have families are going to like things like perfume, bath sets or whatever. I also know that I made a great friend with a gardener after asking about children. When I found out he had a young boy, I left him a baseball & baseball glove, he was extremely happy.

Just my opinion, but $2.00 per day would be a nice tip to your room maid.

Money, a small amount should be good enough. That is why they work those kind of jobs. Tips are what they appreciate the most.

Since they are very low paid, nothing beats money. I do know that things like perfume, shampoo. and watches are luxury items they will like.

Hi dear!, I´m a travel operator here in the Dominican, and the best advise is to give the woman (girl) who is doing your room a descend tip (between 150 and 250 RDS)but give it at the start of your holiday, she will give you a better service.
Somethings, like gifts, you can do this when you are at 1/2 time of your holiday, but only useful things for them.
Enjoy your stay!

Just give them a decent tip, that way you know they'll be able to use it. What you consider a thoughtful gift may well feel like something they'd rather have the money equivalent of to them.

The best gift is a decent tip. They really work hard for what they get paid. Not only maids, every one that work and help you give the a tip. They make in a month what you maybe do in a day.

I quite not get your question, Do you have a maid down there, is that it?

I would say hard candy , nylon stockings,
coloring books, crayons, sonething that has
canada written on it,as these are some of the things that are expensive for them to buy or are not available for them at all. These are the things that i left and they were very pleased.I hope this helps.

Cash is the best. The people in the DR work very hard and appreciate money like you don't even know! Tip everyone (bartenders, cab drivers, maids) up front and you will get better service than you ever imagined! Good Luck and have fun!

stella39
money is the best gift you can give the maids)

Hand and face creams are hard to come by here. Costume Jewelery, Perfumes and just about everything you take for granted is out of their league.

Please also leave them money because they work for about 100 US dollars a month here so they depend on tips.

Have a good time and enjoy this beautiful country.

Cash.. that's what I do.. and for all the cheapasses out there, they are underpaid and really appreciate a tip..

Just give her a tip. The all-inclusive resorts really pay their employees a starvation wage, while the resort operator expatriates all of the profits back to their country. They all drive small business owners out of business by telling lies that the country is dangerous - so many people who would otherwise have a job wind up with these low-paying jobs in the cheap-o all inclusives.

Since people who patronize all-inclusives indirectly drive these poor people's businesses to go broke, just leaving a bit of money would be the only responsible thing to do.

Better yet - go to a real hotel and visit real restaurants and let some people earn an honest wage. If you chose an all-in for convenience, I would suggest try Cabarete next time. There are many hotels right on the beach, and you can walk to 50 bars / restaurants without even leaving the beach. This way you can sample several places and have a bit more variety. Yes, it may cost a buck 3.80 more, but it would help more Dominicans than if you hide in an AI.

I always take a few T-shirts of the local sports team (cowboys) they always enjoy them and keep them or can give them to their husbands or sons. Works well for us. To me it shows more of a personal nature than just money. But I'm not insulting people that give cash. Have you ever been to some faraway exotic place and seen a local wearing a "Superbowl" hat? That was a gift from a tourist.

Why would you be giving them a gift? Just for doing their job? Regular people leave tips, are you looking for a date? I don't get it.
