i like bookit.com but sometimes you can do slightly better if you go directly to the airline and hotel (if time isn't an issue last minute deals offer the best rates)

http://www.vacmart.com/ or http://www.cheapcaribbean.com/ if you go by yourself call the operator at these websites to see what type of deal they are willing to give you. i went to the Sirenis Cocotal Beach Resort. had a great time. got it through vacmart for $632.00 based on double occupancy out of chicago.
other great websites are http://www.hotwire.com/ sign up its free. click on trip watcher and it will let u know when the price goes down. you can look at a flight or a vacation. also go to http://www.bookingbuddy.com/ you can click on the different websites at one time. it will put each click in its own window.

if you decide to leave the country, go to these websites below. it is mandatory for military and government personnel, and highly recommended or suggested for civilians in case of an emergency

http://www.travel.state.gov/ look under international travel for us citizens. then click on registration with embassies. check out whatever else may interest you on that page especially Emergency assistance to americans abroad and Tips for traveling abroad . also go to http://www.domrep.org/ once there go to embassy. under embassy click on embassy staff. print that page and put it in a safe place. also do the same thing for the consular section click on consular staff and print & put in safe place

You will be able to find many inexpensive resorts all inclusive in DR, I would recommend several places to choose from. Go to either, Punta Cana (1st choice if possible), Puerto Plata or Samana. Visit www.travelzoo.com, under Vacation Specials click on Caribbean. There you will see roughly around how much is to stay in a resort so you can compare.

Research the travel sites and always check with a local travel agency regarding their package. Most often they will be cheaper, they have the contacts and usually have better rates. Book air and land together, it will save you $$$. High season is Dec 15th to April 15th. Prices will be higher. Around March, you will see spring sales to the Caribbean and Dominican Republic pop up. End of April, May is a great month to travel. November and beginning of December are also good months.
