All cellphone providers now uses sim card. Digicel card is about US$8.50. The other providers price I do not know. CLARO is a good choice also. You can get internet at 3G speed which is about US$21. per month. LIME, previously call Cable and Wireless Jamaica, gives you internet also. Digicel has Cell sites all over the Island, so if you'll be all over the place, that really should be your first choice. Say you go to a provider and the simcard doesn't work and they say they can do this or that to your phone for it to work, try another provider first because I know of a guy who flash his phone for it to work and when he returned home, it wouldn't work. To be on the safer side, purchase a phone from DIGICEL for about US$31. Hope the info helped. Have fun in the sun. |

My opinion Digicel is a better provider than Cable Wireless. The rates are better and coverage too. Plus they have a plan for j$999 ( $1200 with tax ) that you get 16 hours of talk time to call the US, Canada, or the UK. Cable Wireless has a plan similar, but they are always playing catch up to Digicel with nearly every promotion.
The sim card or "chip" as its called, runs about us $5 |
