Not at all true. I went there two years ago to Cabarete and it was awesome. Foolishly, after paying for an all inclusive trip I ended up leaving the hotel every day to go surfing and every night to go drinking! If you get on a motoconcho (like a scooter taxi) prepare to be offered drugs, but if you say no they won't hassle you. Overall, it was a great trip. Friendly locals, good surf, good beer and the sunshine and food were good too! |

who on earth told u that?! its a load of rubbish. lots of people dont leave the complex simply because there's no need to as in theory you have everything you need there. we wandered out our complex pretty much every day. all you need is to ensure you have your wristband thingy to get back in ok. have a great time! |

Again No it is not true, but As in any country you have to be careful, dress decently not just a bikini to and some short, try to cover your legs and don't show your cleavage. Don't be on your own if your a girl, leave your jewellery and expensive thing at home, maybe take a guide and if it is at night go out in groups. It will be silly to go to Dominican Republic without actually visiting, wouldn't it? |

I've been to the DR 20+ times, and I've never stayed in a complex. The only time I was in one was for a day while my parents visited, and I must say it seemed like one of the sh*ttiest atmospheres I caould ever imagine. If you want to hang out with a bunch of people from your own country and stay locked up, why even bother going away.
My suggestion is to go to a REAL place and eat in REAL restaurants instead of in one of these artificial environments.
AI resorts suck and are destroying the tourism industry and keeping small business owners poor or out of business, while providing extremely low-paying jobs for a few poor schmucks. Don't patronize them. |
