I went there last year late August, its extremely hot and Humid. Every evening we would get a rainstorm, Excellent thunder and lightning, but then it would dry up instantly.

We loved it tho and would definately go back at that time of year.

Hot and humid, with showers. Take some light clothing, you will need it. Don't pack formal wear unless you KNOW you will go to a black tie event of sorts. All clubs and discos now accept people in polos (not t-shirts), unless you're in the colonial zone which is more relaxed.

Good luck and have fun.

August is still in the June 1-September 30 hurricane season. In general, Summer is the only season in the Dominican Republic. Although overall hot and humid during August, the Dominican Republic has such a diversity of attractive regions that in 2 or 3 hours you can easily move from sea level (86 degrees) to the Central Mountains of Jarabacoa (59 degrees). Just note that the dominican Republic has the highest elevation (Pico Duarte 3,175 meters or 10,414 feet) and the lowest elevation (Lago Enriquillo 44 meters or 144 feet below sea level) in the whole Caribbean.
