Its Very Hot In Jamaica

Have a mix of both currencies. Most tourist areas quote prices in USD however any change will be in Jamaican currency. Take small bills as they are better for bargaining. Please think and act sensibly, you'll have a wonderful time.
$5 USD or English pounds would NOT make anyone rich for the day as they would be $300 and $500 respectively. Thats equivalent to buying lunch and a soda with the US alone and a phone card with the pounds. |

American- but make sure you know the currency there... I was there and gave a guy a $5.00 tip for taking my luggage about 100 feet... little did I know that I think I made that man rich for the rest of the day! (Not trying to be cheap... ) |

American money is accepted pretty much everywhere in Jamaica. Take plenty of small bills, though. By their law you will receive change in Jamaican Dollars. |

It is always best to bring American and the currency of the other country you are visiting just in case but usually there are places where you can change the money. |

American -- but know the exchange before you go.
What do you want to buy? Go all-inclusive and leave your wallet home! |

We take US dollars because they are excepted everywhere and it's easy to change them once you get there . I find it much easier to deal with Jamaican money while there . If you look hard you can even find an exchange rate better than what the banks are offering . |

when i visited there a couple of years ago, FDR Resort in St. Anne's Bay) almost every vendor wanted american money, because of the trade up value. You get a good deal on exchanging your money for theirs. so if you are a bargining type of traveler, i would suggest taking your money, if that is not your thing, just exchange your money at the hotel or any local bank:) No worries and safe travels:) |

if you have Jamaican currency then by all means take it with you. You can convert your US$ at the airport. Try not to use it all over the island because the exchange rate varies.
As one person said 'go all inclusive' that is an option but you still do need to have money with you just in case.
carry small bills and don't think that US$5 will make anyone in Jamaica rich. |

American, since it's accepted everywhere, and you won't lose out by having to re-convert your excess Jamaican dollars when you leave. If paying by credit card, compare the exchange rates; it is usually cheaper to pay in Jamaican dollars than US, and you always have the option to have your card processed in US or Jamaican. Also, the Jamcian dollar is really unstable, so its worth on one day might be really different from the next. |

The only people authorized to take American money are the cab drivers. You can exchange american money for Jamaican currency, but not the reverse. I don't know why anyone would want to go to Jamaica. It is a very dangerous place. They are even killing police right and left. Go to a Eastern Carribean |
