Bermuda is so small, there really isn't a best "part" to stay in - everything is nearby. The most famous and arguably beautiful part is the South Shore, which has the best beaches. Much depends on what you are looking for. Do you want expensive and luxury, expensive seclusion, economical, or mid-range? Here are some suggestions: I usually stay at Grotto Bay (http://www.grottobay.com/). It is not the most expensive place on the island, but it is not on the South Shore, either. However, it is very conveniently located, it is on the water, and there are many benefits and advantages. They have 3 beaches (2 are very small), 1 outdoor and 2 indoors restaurants, pool with bar, tennis, concierge, on-site water sports center, and an all-inclusive option. It is a great location - close to the airport, on several bus lines (and the bus is by far the best way to get around the island), and within walking distance of several attractions. If you want high-end, you want to stay on the South Shore. The best places there would be The Southampton Princess (http://www.fairmont.com/southampton/), Elbow Beach (http://www.mandarinoriental.com/hotel/534000002.asp), or the Reefs (www.thereefs.com). All of these high-end hotels have magnificient views, but from a convenience standpoint (especially if you are using the bus to get around), they are limited. You will also find spa facilities at the Princess and Elbow Beach; I am not sure about the Reefs. All 3 have pools, restaurants, beaches. For expensive (I should probably be saying high-end instead) seclusion, check out 9 Beaches (www.9beaches.com) This resort is off the beaten path and has individual cottage/bungalow-style rooms, some right over the water. If you want economical, check out a guesthouse. 2 that I have checked out in the past are Greenbank Guesthouse (http://www.greenbankbermuda.com/) and Salt Kettle House (no website). I have met many people who have stayed at Salt Kettle House, and they all absolutely rave about it. Another economical option is booking through www.bermudarentals.com - this is basically a service for island residents who rent out part of their home - usually a separate apartment, but sometimes just a room with separate entry - at a very reasonable rate, sometimes as low as $35/night. Honestly, for my money, I would go with Grotto Bay. They have very reasonable rates in November, and I would be hard-pressed to stay anywhere else. I have stayed there 7 times, and have never been disappointed. |

I have stayed in the Grotto Bay which is nice . There are caves flooded with sea water right on the property and you can swim in them as well. There is also the Swizzle Inn (pub) walking distance from it. It is on the bus route as well going to Hamilton (big city) and St Georges (cute little town). Auntie Neas is in St George as well and is a cute B & B, really nice rooms and views, and free wifi. ($6 a day @ Grotto). Or if you want to stay at Michael Douglas & Katheryn Zeta Jones resort it's Ariel Sands never been there but herad it's sweet. I now live in Bermuda email me through my profile if you need more info. P.S. It has been in the 50's at night (cold) |

Also on Grotto Bay: Grotto Bay is a mid-priced resort located on more than 20 ocean front acres near the airport and the town of St. George. It's a pleasant and scenic 30 minute bus ride into Hamilton. The resort was refurbished in recent history, and features about 200 rooms. It offers several suites. I've stayed at Grotto Bay twice. It's not as elegant as the top-end resorts, but it is in good condition, has a full stable of amenities including 4 tennis courts, 3 small but nice beach and nice snorkeling locations. Located on a hill, the grounds are beautifully landscaped. There are several caves at Grotto Bay, each allowing exploration, and there is a nearby watersports shop that offers various rentals. The hotel itself has two wings, with simple, comfortable rooms. They are a bit small, but then, you are hardly ever in them. Meals are ample and not overpriced by Bermuda standards. I have found Grotto Bay to be a cozy home away from home. It's not, for sure, an upscale resort like the Coral Beach Club and it's not as elegant as Waterloo House, but for a pleasant resort chock full of amenities it's an excellent choice. Our visitors rate Grotto Bay as 4 stars out of 5 for those looking for mid-priced |
