Where's the nicer place/beach, Punta cana or Puerto plata in Dominican Republic?

My friend and I want to take a vacation down South this March break. We want something fairly cheap, but with a beautiful beach. The Dominican Republic looks good but I know nothing about it. Would you know the names of nice all inclusive resorts on the beach?

Puerto Plata is an older tourist destination with darker sand, but it is still very nice and cheaper. On the other hand, Punta Cana is newer. It has got all the bells and whistles with beautiful white sand beaches, I prefer this destination but it is the pricier of the two options.

the best beaches are in punta cana/bavaro area
almost all hotels are all inclusive with lots of activities
i used to work for 6 years in BARCELO BAVARO HOTEL
and i think it is just a great resort.
there are many resorts to choose from..

Punta Cana all the way!

Punta Cana is a great place, more relaxed and laid back, and it is more secluded and geared toward a more up- scale target.

Some extra info!
Punta Cana is the name of a region in the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic. Covering about 420,000 m2 (approximately 1,100 acres), the region is home to a coastline of sandy white beaches and to a town of the same name.
Located in the province of La Altagracia and population estimated in 100,000, the region borders the Atlantic Ocean to the east. To the north, it borders Bávaro and El Cortecito beaches. It also limits with Cabeza de Toro, Cabo Engaño and further west with Juanillo. Although it is mildly windy, the ocean in the area is mainly shallows, with several natural marine pools in which visitors can bathe. The weather is fairly constant, with an average temperature of 26°C. The hottest season lasts from April to November, and during the day temperatures might reach 32°C. From December to March, temperatures during the evening are around 20°C. Very little rain falls around the area, mostly because of the flat landscape.

My country has many things to do and places to see, go there and have fun, its so cheap! Believe me i live now in Barbados.

Also do a search for Bavaro if you like more night activities and the crowd is younger, great beaches there, and nightlife is awesome. Great hotels all inclusive.

Club Viva Dominicus hotel is one i truly recommend in Bayahibe area.

Enjoy your trip, and don't stay in your room try going to outside and do some activities. Help the economy grow. I recommend two restaurants in the zone, near Bavaro and Punta Cana. The Jelly Fish and Captain Cook. Great seafood.

Hoped it help!

If you want to have nice beach - Punta Cana
If you want party - Puerto Plata

shared account.
If your looking for a beautiful beach I would definatly recommend Punta Cana, its famous for the beautiful, never ending, as far as the eye can see beaches. This is why we chose to go to Punta Cana. We are going tommorow!
Have a good one!!

Punta Cana is much newer and nicer. I would recommend going there as suppose to Puerto Plata

I visited both...Punta Cana has clear water....Puerto Plata is on the Atlantic side is just plain ocean colored water, but the hotels were about the same...Puerto Plata is less expensive, I would recommend Punta Cana

Punta Cana is a much nicer beach, nicer sand and an overall better enviornment. Puerto Plata is coast and has a beach, but not as nice at all...it is more like just coastline. I was so disappointed when I went there.

Go Punta Cana all the way!!! No competition. Have FUN!
