If you have never cruised before and you don't know what you are doing, you definately should use a travel agent. Also, I would really recommend that you use a local travel agency instead of finding one online. A lot of people think using a travel agent costs them extra money, and this is simply untrue. The travel agents get their commissions paid to them by the cruise line, not the traveler. You are looking at a good time frame though, November and the first part of December usually is a good time to get lower rates. Have fun!!!! |

I have found that most travel sites are close to the same prices but I use hotwire and have always found that they have the best free upgrades and I have always saved quite a bit with them,at that time of year if you aren't trying to travel during Thanksgiving,Christmas or New Year the price is better because it is considered the off season. |

Since you are new to cruising, I recommend contacting a travel agent. Despite what some people believe, a travel agent can often save you money, especially on cruises. My agent almost always has lower rates than "online discounters" like Expedia and Orbitz. But the big thing is that a travel agent is going to help you with the booking. For example, they can help you find the best cruise line to meet your likes and also fit in your budget. They will help you with planning prenight/postnight stays, line up transfers, travel protection, etc. They also prepare the documents and inform you of everything you need to take with you.
If you go with a site like Expedia to book your cruise, you are pretty much on your own. The main problem is that a lot of people have had problems with these sites when booking cruises. I've read so many stories. From simple things like the ports changed on the cruise, to bigger things where people found out that Expedia never made their reservation, but they still had been charged for the trip.
I recommend looking into a travel agent that specializes in cruises, you won't regret it! |
