Heads up!

Where in the Caribbean is your favourite holiday destination , and why?

I went to St. Marten last year and loved it . I have also been to Dominican Republic , Cuba and Mexico and had some good memories from them too. I always include Scuba diving as part of my vacation and mingle with the locals.Tell me your story.

I think you should try Belize next. It would suit you to the ground, with friendly locals and plenty to do. My fond memories are of the remarkable wildlife, canoeing down the river (with armadillos attacking our tent at night), and visiting Mayan temples. But intrepid explorers like you would have plenty of scuba diving opportunities. http://www.belizenet.com/diveix.shtml

The best and overall place to go in the caribbean is Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. It is incredible how beautiful the hotels, beaches, people, and everything there is. Get a hotel from either Riu chains, or Hilton. Another one is Barcelo hotels. Get into an all inclusive hotel chain, and you'll never wanna go anywhere else.

havn't been there.. but id agree with St. Marrten. Heard great things about it, + i've seen youtube videos of the low approaching 747 jets that land there. I'd like to stand under one of those someday.

I know what you mean about St Maarten. We loved it too.The food, the beaches, the awesome water and the people. Very good island to relax and enjoy.

My favorite destination is St John in the US Virgin Islands. The fact that 75% of the land is park land. Thank you Mr. Rockefeller. No resorts lining the beaches (except for Caneel and the Westin) The mountains, the beaches, the water, culture, food, people always makes me thankful that the USA owns St John. Very relaxing island with wonderful snorkeling and plenty to do or not do. We rent a house/villa and jeep when visiting and we are in paradise.
Try it. They scuba there too.

I agree St. Maarten is great I must admit I prefer a slower pace in my ideal Caribbean destination. I have fallen in love with the island of Bequia, an island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Bequia is not a place to go if you enjoy touristy activities. Bequia has a small main street in Port Elizabeth (the island's hub) along with a path along the harbor that leads to numerous low key true Caribbean restaurants. Bequia has numerous beaches that have a great golden sand. My favorite beach is Lower Bay. There are beach bars for lunch but it is never crowded. Yes people are there but finding a place to setup your towel is not even an issue.

The food in Bequia is not as fabulous as Saint Maarten but what has better food than St. Maarten really? Paris? Relaxed restaurants have a rotating entertainment circuit that seems to make one restaurant the party spot on one evening and the next evening it is someplace else.

Activities on Bequia are mainly exploring the various beaches. A few beaches are a hike but you may hire a taxi (a small pickup truck that you ride in the back of) to shorten your hike. Don't miss a daysail on the old Bequia ferry, Friendship Rose. I recommend the daysail to Tobago cays to snorkel the great reef.

The people of Bequia are truly friendly. Not so many tourists so they truly appreciate you visiting their home. A hidden gem is actually the various island artisans that reside on Bequia. There are miniature boat builders to visit along w/ a potter and a silk print designer to name a few.

So a typical relaxing day on Bequia would go like this for me. Breakfast in our room followed by a trip to Lower Bay for a day on the beach. Swim in the calm perfectly warm ocean. Lunch and beers at a beach bar. A stop at an artist's shop. And dinner at the designated hot spot of the night. Ahhh I cannot wait to return.

Barbados, because it is paradise to be in. Great food, beautiful weather, friendly people. I love my friends here, I've been here 6 times now, since 2004. I'm currently in that lovely country with my brother whose has this island as his first time. :)
