Sandals Cay (formerly called Kokomo Island) is part of the privately owned Sandals Royal Caribbean all-inclusive resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. It became famous as the inspiration for the song Kokomo, written by John Phillips, Mike Love, Terry Melcher, and Scott McKenzie, and performed by The Beach Boys.
It is a very small island (about an acre), and according to the Sandals Royal Caribbean website, the only amenities on the island are a Thai restaurant, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a bar, and a secluded beach. The island caters to couples on tropical getaways. |

There was in the MidWest America an indian tribe called Miami (note Miami, Ohio) and a Miami chief called Ma-Ko-Ko-Mo, also spelled Koh-Koh-Mah. A trading settlement adopted his name; thus Kokomo, Indiana. There was a tradition in America that names with K in them and repetition were more fun and could be comical (Kalamazoo, Walla Walla) hence the re-use in Key West of the Kokomo name and in Bahama the Kokomo Resort. |

A bar or was a bar in the Florida Keys. It was at one time a place for stars and entertainers to hang out. I have not heard of it for a long time now so I think is is no longer there. There also is a city in Indiana called KoKomo. It is still there. |
