You should check out Culebra Island. This is a small island that is part of Puerto Rico. Flamenco beach in Culebra was rated as 1 of the top 10 beaches in the world by the travel channel. Its beautiful with powder white sand & crystal water. The island is not crowded at all. In fact there is no major development here. No chain hotels only guest houses & villas. There is great snorkelling & its not too close to the beach. You actually have to take a kayak out to get to te snorkel area. To get to this island you can take a ferry or small plane from Puerto Rico. No passprt for US citizens & USD currency as well. Check out some links I will provide for you below & you decide. GOODLK!
Oh & also on your way there you will probably stop in Fajardo (where the ferry leaves) & there you can visit 'El Yunque' rainforest & hike down to La Mina waterfalls & swim in it. Its so pure & beautiful. Also They have a bioluminescent bay in Fajardo where the water glows in the dark when you touch it. You can take a kayak tour out & swim in the amazing water! |

Try this site: iBtraveling.com. You'll find lots of travel sites there so you can make your choice and compare prices. All the Caribbean islands are nice, so that's not a problem. Think about a cruise too. I've done both with kids the ages you have and they like cruises best, and so do I. Just bring your own snorkel equipment and don't step or touch the coral...it's depleting rapidly, therefore, the fish are gone too. I'd suggest if you're to cruise to leave San Juan so you'll go to the better islands and you won't have as many days on board ship. Get an ocean view cabin, but get the cheapest one and then two weeks before you leave, call the ship (say Carnival) and ask if there are any free upgrades. If you still want to do a resort...they can be fun, Cheap Caribbean has some good deals. Wish you luck and fun though! :) |

US Virgin Islands.
St John is 75% park land. No big resorts lining the beautiful beaches. Rent a villa/home on the island with a pool and hot tub. Lot more room and economical with kids. You can provision the villa with snacks, drinks, breakfast and lunch meals.
If you prefer a resort, there is the Westin and many small Inns to choose from.
A good island to relax, explore and enjoy.)

The right area in Jamaica. Montego Bay more crowded than Ocho Rios. Ocho Rios is a smaller town by the lovely Caribbean warm water. Depending on how much you want to spend there is Beaches(all-inclusive) Hotel for families, for a smaller less expensive hotel, Boscobel Beach has had some good reports.
Call 1-800-JAMAICA for hotel brochures and of course * book a package hotel and airfare its less money. I believe children are free at Boscobel Beach. If U don't want an all inclusive let me know. |
