Where should we go for an October honeymoon? |
My fiancée and I will be married in Chicago on Oct. 4. We're looking for a honeymoon trip that combines R&R (preferably on a beach) with sightseeing. We were thinking that the Yucatán penninsula would provide this combo, but we would be going in the middle of hurricane season.
Any suggestions on other possibilities? I know that islands farther south are out of the hurricane belt: Aruba, Trinidad & Tobago. We prefer room-only hotels in cities where we can find different dining options nearby.
Or are we overlooking a totally different option? We would prefer to stay in the Western Hemisphere, as one of us does not like flights of more than eight hours. |

Tobago is great, its pretty small though but still has good resturants and things to do. I visited in June/July which is low season there in terms of tourists. It was relatively quiet, the beaches weren't crowded and on boat trips we were often the only ones on them. Theres plenty of little stalls selling lovely shells etc and the fresh fruit is amazing. There is also a good shopping mall and you can take a tour in the rainforest. The beaches have plently of watersports available and there are trips to see wild dolphins and turtles. Lots of tropical fish and coral, snorkling is excellent, sea is warm. |

Have you considered San Juan Puerto Rico? We stay at ESJ Towers on the 16th floor. A beautiful ocean front suite within walking distance of "The Sands" Which you may want to consider staying at. Pools, white sand, Gated to keep out the locals, etc. Several restaurants within walking distance...Some good some not so good. No hassle with currency, we did 10 days there without renting a car....We did several guided tours that were at our leisure, The Rain Forest, The Bacardi Rum Factory,The MALL, But or most Enjoyable/ Calm excursion was a sunset cruise on a catamaran along the shore. Anyway I'm rambling on good luck.. Congratulations. |

Since you live in the middle of the country you could travel east or west easily.
Cabo San Lucas is a wonderful spot for a honeymoon and out of the caribbean and hurricanes.
Here is a link to resorts in Cabo with reviews and photos.
Many nice non-inclusive resorts too.

Many good restaurants and activiities. Here is a couple of links to research and see if Cabo is for you.

Good Luck and enjoy your honeymoon. I would have suggested Hawaii but I think it's a 10 hour flight from Chicago. Hawaii is amazing.) |

You might like St. Bart's, a French Island in the Caribbean. There are terrific hotels and since the island is French, it is a culinary paradise.
The historic capital of Gustavia is located on the Harbor, and is wonderful for sight seeing. The island is fun to explore, with farmland, small villages and a small rain forest. The beaches are beautiful.
St. Bart's is usually classified as an expensive, "jet set" location, and that is true in the high season. In October, you will have not only lower rates, and good weather, but will enjoy the island in a more peaceful setting.
I've only visited once, and loved the people and the "joi de vive" that you will discover -- Almost without saying, the island is very romantic.
Hotel Le Village St. Jean is an affordable hotel, or you may want to rent a small villa.
ps - my brother and his wife honeymooned on St. Bart's in mid-October, after their Cayman Island trip was cancelled at the last minute due to a hurricane. |
