Cabarete or Bayahibi would be my choice for you.

Cabarete is a young international sportminded crowd who surfs, wind surfs and kite surfs during the day and parties all night on the beach. Problem for me with Cabarete is that it is a rip off. 120 pesos for a beer and the same beer in Sosua 6 miles away is 70 pesos. Change a dollar in Sosua for 35.70 today and Cabarete is 33 to one instead. Other than that it is all that and a bag of chips.

Bayahibi is near La Romana. There are two islands off the coast that have tours to go on that are fabulous. Fast motor boat going out and slow Catamaran coming back. All inclusive with food, drinks and entertainment for about 60 bux a head. Great trip. Hotel Bayahibi about 50 bux a night for all in one room including breakfast. Meals 10 bux or less. Small fishing village.
Another side trip is Altos de Chavone which is a copy of a small italian fishing village complete with coblestone streets. Has an Art School many a gallery and has an amphitheater with live entertainment.

There are also a few All inclusive Adult only Hotels in Puerto Plata but I am not big on All Inclusives.

Santa Domingo by far.
It is one of the oldest European cities in the Western Hemisphere.
It has a fortress that is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
It is home of the monument to Christopher Columbus and it shines a light skyword that makes a huge cross.
It has a nightclub in a cave!!

It depends on what you're looking for. Santo Domingo is all the other poster suggested but I wouldn't trust the safety of three young ladies to the tender mercies of that city. Cabarete is a great place for kite surfing and has some of the neatest nightlife, some neat shops and all sorts of things to do and see. Sosua has a very quiet little bay for swimming and snorkelling but the nightlife isn't as good...in fact it's a bit seedy at night. It also depends on where you're headed to.

I would vote for Bayahibe just because I love that beach, but I'm not to sure about the nightlife. You might find it a little slow if you are looking for a singles type environment.

Cabarete is known for having a pretty busy nightlife that might be a good bet for you.

By far the best place in DR is Puerto Plata - Iberostar Costa Dorada...it's beautiful, entertaining and relaxing and would be perfect for a girlish holiday, and the clubs are reaallly amazing! =) i've been there 3 times, my brother in law used to work for the hotel...i have been on holiday all over the world and these three holidays were the best of my life! Go - you will enjoy it, trustt me!

p.s the crazy moon club is the best, try it!

I have lived in the Dominican republic for a few months.
Puerto Plata.
I am 20 so i think i know what you would like. I really enjoy going to the Boulevard! any where on their is great, lots of things to do there.
Also Sousa beach is beautiful! night life is good but alot of prostitution.
The club Co Co Bongo is good in the Playa Dorada Complex alsooo there is so much more is you want some more ideas just message me!

Laura
I am heading to La Romana in the DR this Monday. I have been to Punta Cana and the beaches were fantastic! La Romana has around 10-13 resorts and gorgeous...it is located directly beside Santo Domingo. So if you are nervous staying in the "big city" stay on the outskirts in La Romana. I am staying at the Catalonia Gran Dominicus!!! very excited!

Come to Zona Colonial. Theres lots to do and see and it is relatively safe. You can go to all types of discos, bars, restaurants, sightseeing and more all within walking distance.

Heres a web site that has all the info
