Which Caribbean island not Jamaica, Barbados or Trinidad would you recommend for a vacation? |
Somewhere with good night life, reasonable hotels and places a 7 year old would find interesting. This is supposed to be in July so maybe any island that has carnivals or any special festivals during that time.
We have already been to the 3 islands excluded.
Anyone know anything about Antigua especially? |

Puerto Rico has excellent nightlife!! In Old San Juan there are tons of bars & pubs, nightclubs, live bands, casinos & more! There is alwasy a festival going on in PR :) In July the Salsa Congress will be in PR & will be performing shows. Also there are patron saint festivals & carnivals of many towns in July like Rio Grande(el yunque rain forrest), Fajardo, Morovis, Catano, Barceloneta, Guanica, Vieques & Loiza. Many have parades, music, food & more. Manati & Arecibo have beach festivals in July.

& it is very kid friendly also. You can take a 7 yr old to El Morro, the ancient spanish warfort. This is a must see & kids love it too. Plus there are kids flying kites all around here. You can go to Camuy Caves (the 3rd largest caves in the world) & Arecibo telescope (the largest radio telescope in the world). Oh & the beaches in PR are gorgeous too. Rincon is great for surfers. Culebra & Vieques are practically secluded white sand small islands of the coast. Oh & El Yunque rain forrest is cool . U walk down trails & u reach La mina waterfalls where u can take a cool dip. There are tons of kids parks also. The Arecibo lighthouse has a kids pirate park. There is also a science park w/ Nasa shuttles in Bayamon. There are waterparks, iceskating rinks & a zoo.

Antigua is nice, but try Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. They have entertainment and activities for everyone. Also, try Abaco Island also in the Bahamas.Check them out on line. |

well from living in the islands i knwo that the carnivals are more around easter time...actually the weekend after easter.
but i suggest the cayman islands... they have white sandy beaches, the waves arent high because of the reef barrier, the water is incredibly clear and tons of activites. i know that they did have an agreement to have spongebob squarepants' pineapple on the beach and it was built and was a huge succes a 7 yera old would love it but that was before the hurrican in like 2003 butit shoudl b up again. they also have boat tours to string ray city where you can pet he stingrays and swim with them. the water there is incredibly shallow and the stindrays are tamed but if you dont want to swim with them the tour guides hold up thesting rays so that you can still touch them and they put them on your head for pics. you dont have to worry bout them attacking you. they also have a turtle farm wih the smallest turtles to an entire pool filled with snapping turtles. i went when i was 7 and again when i was 16 ... i absolutle love it down there. and the jewelrry shopping is amazing great deals |

St Lucia has carnaval in July, which attracts many tourists and the vibe is just killer, and the place is very family-friendly, but you probably wont get a deal on airfare because all of the expatriates and tourists are coming home during that week and flights will be booked. I would also recommend the virgin islands, its US territory and you can get better deals in July. St. Kitts & Nevis also has a music festival in July, and there's a ferry that leaves from the capital, basseterre, that can take you to Sint Maarten for the day, which alot of tourists enjoy because of the shopping and the french/dutch vibe etc. The dominican republic is the best for all inclusive deals, though there wont be much for your child to do outside of the hotel(although the hotels like Casa De Campo have a ridiculous amount of activities to do onsite).
I dont know much about antigua though, sorry. |

My favorite Caribbean destinations are Cuba (mostly Havana) and the Dominican Republic. The nightlife in Havana is GREAT and for FAST nightlife in the D.R. I like Sosua. Check out the links at http://www.MyCubaFest.com and http://www.MyTravelFest.com for travel links and information about both destinations. My last trip to the D.R. a couple weeks ago I stayed at Rocky's in Sosua. A simple hotel and only $22/night. In Havana I use Havana-Rentals to find a nice Cuban apartment for my stay. Generally $25-$35/night. |
