Which Caribbean island would be the best choice for me an my husband? |
Here is a little about us and our travel style:
- not looking for any type of clubbing/dancing, we prefer a mellow chill little village
- love outdoor activities and would enjoy hiking, biking, snorkeling, surfing,
- looking for a BEAUTIFUL beach
- we don't enjoy large all-inclusive resorts or cruises....we would rather stay in a small locally owned guesthouse or B&B.
- easy access (we only have a week) prefer a location we could fly direct from Florida.
Thank you!
We have never been anywhere in the Caribbean....only Central America and Europe . |

Aruba, Bermuda, Jamaica, etc are ridiculous suggestions for those who want a quiet getaway. Look at the Plantation Inns of St. Kitts and Nevis. Ottleys, Hermitage, Montpellier, Nisbet, Golden Lemon, are some suggestions. The Plantation Inns have a B&B feel to them as the owner/operators will get to know you personally. If you scuba dive or snorkel, St Kitts & Nevis are nice (not spectacular) underrated islands. If you like to Hike, climb Nevis Peak with Jim Johnson or Mt. Liamuiga with Greg's Safaris.
I'm with you 100%. All you have to do is say "all inclusive" to make me run for the hills. I've been to 6 different caribbean islands in the last 5 years. |

Consider the Grand Cayman Islands for your vacation. There are many fun (laid back) activities available, like the world famous Seven Mile Beach, snorkeling, scuba diving, and more. Check out the website for more information: http://www.harbourheightscayman.com/ |

I'd choose the Dominican Republic, St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. I wouldn't go to St. Thomas or Jamaica, because they are way too touristy and more of a party scene.

St. John has some of the best beaches in the world. Caneel Bay, for example, and much more. It's a laid-back kind of place and not crowded.

Great beaches, national parks, golfing.
My pick is St. John, just beautiful!
Has some beautiful national parks. |

My friend Barbados is waiting your arrival.
~Although Barbados has clubbing spots the noise will hardly affect you and your husband because most likely you will be living far from there. Barbados is a tranquile place during the day and is only noisy at night basically if u are in the partying areas(will you will not be)
~Out dopor activities like the ones that you mentioned are ALL offered here...yes. Hiking,Biking,Snorkling,Surfing and even scuba diving and safasi tours, you would even get to swim with the turtles.
~Barbados is known for the lovely beaches here. Namely Dover beach,Miami beach, Accra beach among many others.
~Although they are large hotels here that offer all inclusive services you will MOST DEFINITLY find the guesthouses and B&B's here in Barbados. One place that i would recommend is a Inn called The Pirates Inn in Rockley Christ Church. It is not big at all but nice. Also where it is located you will have places to go buy something to eat and to even do your little shopping and whats not.Their number is (246)426-6273 and their website is the following link: http://www.piratesinnbarbados.com/
~Yes you can fly from Florid to Barbados in one flight i have been to Florida many times so i know what i am saying.
Barbados i s such a beautiful place it would be a shame if you didnt take the opportunity and come to see what we can offer. =)
Hope i helped. |

Try checking out the island below. Fly early in the morning from Miami on Avianca and you can get there in 5 hours or so depending on connections. You can call the 1-800 # in phonebook for Avianca and they can hook you up.
Below is link for Avianca too. Put in dates and check prices.
The third link is you tube. The first beaches shown are of san andres
The fourth link says it all....COLOMBIA IS PASSION!!!
ps-don't let the word Colombia scare you. Just do not leave your valubles laying around.
enjoy |

I would say Las Terenas, in the Samana region of Dominican Republic. Miles of wonderfull beaches, peacefull, no crowds, beach to your self. Other options would be, St Kitts and Nevis, Turks and Cacos islands, Aruba north coast in Malmock area near light house. Has wonderfull Arashi beach, no crowds, very upmarket. Palm beach very crowded, Eagle beach and baby beach better. Also Aruba a very safe island like St Kitts. Hope you have a great time. |
