I would have to agree, as much as I love Jamaica, it can be very dangerous

Statistically Haiti, Jamaica and recently a lot of kidnappings / murders in Trinidad and Tobago. Having said that if you were to holiday in the "All inclusive" resorts you should not have any problems.

Totally biased of course Barbados has a much lower crime rate, obviously when travelling as with anywhere, dont 'broadcast' wads of cash, jewellery, expensive cameras, designer gear, etc.
Dont go alone to beaches late at night, travelling at night even in a vehicle especially in the 'country' where there is not much lighting - not a good idea.

No where is totally crime free.

I don't about the islands with the most crime but I would say the Cayman Islands are the safest and have the least crime of all the islands.

Dominican Republic is the worse. Lived there and the Country is corrupt. If you get robbed you pay the Police to do their job. The crook pays more and goes free.

Sandy Sandals
I think of all the ones I've been to St. Barth's was the safest, probably because it's so darn expensive it keeps the riff raff out. I too have heard bad things about Jamaica. A friend a former co-worker went there on a family trip and made the mistake of venturing outside the resort area and got beat up pretty bad. I was in St. Kitts and Nevis recently and got the impression that after dark you don't want to venture too far. Of course on any island the locals all want you to feel safe because nobody wants that reputation or no one will visit there. It's just a few bad apples.

Since everyone that answered your question has never been outside their state they just sit their ignorant butts at home and watch T.V. let me tell you the truth from someone who is from the carribean, I am from Jamaica by the way and it isn't any worse than the rest of the world, all the carribean islands have crimes just like every other country but really there is no where safe in the world now even at grandma's house, but don't let these people that have never been to the carribean fool you Jamaica is not dangerous
