Which St. Thomas hotel do you recommend? |
I am going to St. Thomas in January. I can't decide between Marriott Frenchman's Reef and Wyndham Sugar Bay. Anyone have any recommendations? |

First, here are the sites:
Marriott Frenchman's Reef
http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sttfr-frenchmans-reef-and-morning-star-marriott-beach-resort/
Wyndham Sugar Bay
http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/STTSB/main.wnt
Right now probably the best bang for your buck would be Sugar Bay. Its first plus is it's all-inclusive; one of only two all-inclusive resorts in the territory. There are also more amenities at Sugar Bay like regular entertainment, a spa, tennis and basketball courts, and a minigolf entertainment center with bumper boats and video games. |

I have been lucky enough to stay at both. I like the Marriottt much better. If you can, stay at the Morning Star beach resort. Its part of the Marriot but its much more private than the Frenchman's reef. Its a bit of a walk from the beach to the main hotel but you will love Morning Star beach. If you have the money stay ocean front there. You wont regret it. |

I was at the Wyndham in Sept '07, its was OK, but its starting to show its age, we also had dinner & drinks the Marriott. The Marriott is much newer & cleaner. I prefer the Wyndham's location better, being the I day trip to St. John alot, and it real close to the ferry port. Have a good trip. |

The Wyndham Sugar Bay is getting better reviews on tripadvisor.com than the Marriott Frenchman's Reef. Here is a link to Wyndham unbiased reviews and candid photos.
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g147407-d147658-r18010978-Wyndham_Sugar_Bay_Resort_Spa-East_End_St_Thomas_U_S_Virgin_Islands.html
Read the reviews and see if this resort is for you. It's close to Red Hook and the ferry which is a plus. Taking the ferry over to St John is a "must do" if you go to the USVI.
Good Luck) |

The Marriott Frenchman Reef and Morning star hotel is better. The panoramic view is more romantic overlooking both the harbor and Caribbean. The housekeeping point of view is more cleaner. It has 6 big restaurants that you can choose to dine in.The services is more better .
The beach in Wyndham Sugar Bay is very small to the size of the hotel. It is a little bit crowded. They have only 3 restaurant choices. Enjoy your vacation. |

I lived on ST. Thomas and if all things are equal are accessible in abilityt o pay you want to stay at the Marriot Frenchman's Reef. It is more historic. It has that great spot on the island to see and be seen. The name has more cache on the island so places( sites of interest) cater to it more. |
