Which hotel in the Dominican Republic?

Me and my boyfriend (both 30 years old) are planning on going the Dom Rep in Feb 09 for a weeks holiday but we cant decide on which all-inclusive resort to stay in. Our top requirements are:

-white powder sandy beach
-nice modern clean rooms
-good food with a choice of restaurants

I have reviewed so many hotels and all have good reviews and really negative reviews

Budget wise - i would say 4-5 star. Not top range - but a but better than mid range. We have around £1,000 to spend each

If anyone can recommend a place they stayed in with the above requirements i was be sooo grateful!

x

I would stick to hotels in the Bavaro, Samana, Punta Cana or Las Terrenas area. Stay far, far away from Boca Chica and Juan Dolio.

Food is a hard one, i'm never pleased with the food at any of the hotels. We stayed at Bahia Principe recently on Cayo Levantado that was nice. Only problem we had was that they lost one of our bags during checkout. Other than that, we had a fun, relaxing stay.

Food was not bad at all (im picky). I think it was a 5 star, but we got a good deal and it felt more like a 4 star to me. Not because of the look of the place, but the service was not quite there.

The rooms are very, very nice. Comfy beds, nicely decorated and HUGE tub. Oh, and unlike most all inclusives, they do have room service with a very complete menu. I had fun with that!

The resort is on an tiny island (key) off the coast of samana. Its absolutely gorgeous.

It is somewhat far from most airports, but you can always arrange a transfer. If you are flying into Santo Domingo you can request a transfer here: http://santodomingotransfers.weebly.com

modern rooms you may have to spend a bit more like casa de campo,
but clean and decent

Barcelo Capelo in Juan Dolio
and the Coral Hilton in Boca Chica
both are on a white sandy beautiful beach,
clean rooms with nice views and good amenities,
i think food choices were better at Boca Chica
I have photos of both places if you want
just email me if you want more info

Melia Caribe Tropical in Bavaro is outstanding and hits all of your requirements on your list. Gorgeous beach, lovely rooms and over 13 restaurants to choose from with no limit.

I went with my hubby and another couple, all in our mid 20s -30s and we had the best time. Been all over the carribean and this is my fave hotel so far.

Thomas Cook will definately have it for less than £1000. We are also returning in Feb 09 for our anniversary.

Please email me abidoodah@yahoo.com and I will tell you all about it and answer all your questions.

regards
abby
