depends on what you want to do.
I read the above responses, and like lots of people who have only seen a small piece of Jamaica, they make huge generalizations and assume that everything is the same.
The North Coast ie. Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios is very good for the "resort feel". however, there is also a very hot nightlife, for example on the hip strip.
If you want a more rustic, nature oriented environment, then you should try the South Coast, for example places like treasure beach and black river in St. Elizabeth, or the Parish of Portland (the water is fabulous).
Kingston is great if you want a city feel, but there are lots of museums and places of historical significance in Kingston as well.
and if you want a feel of the history, go to places like Maroon Town and the Taino museum, and go to festivals, or carnival (if you visit in the Easter).
People go to to north coast and sit on the beach and meet a bunch of groveling hotel workers who need to make a tip, and then they assume that that's Jamaica, and that's Jamaicans.
On another note, I live in Miami now and there is also alot to offer there.
Best of luck. |

I would pick Jamaica over Miami, although both are nice. But I would want something different, I don't know, things they have that Miami doesn't. |

Well, I'm half Jamaican so I natually love it there. You should definitely go there because they have beautiful clear-water beaches with white sand like Negril Beach. You should stop by Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios and climb it. You should also stop by Lucea and go to some of the open markets. Plus, the drinking age there is 18! |

I'd choose Jamaica. Miami is a big city, and I'm not knocking it; there's the wonderful Cuban food and culture, great shopping, and probably an extraordinary night life. Jamaica is just so wonderfully different. The food is delicious; the people are wonderful. The water is so blue. I've been from Negril to the Blue Mountains and many places in between. In Jamaica, you have all the options....but still can find a quiet beach, a starry sky, a place in the shade under the palms, a horse ride on a beach, waterfalls to climb, rivers to glide down on a raft, the soft sounds of Reggae, the chance to learn some patois, the chance to fall in love with an island that will call you back again and again. The air is so sweet and pungent with the scent of flowers and fruit and salt and romance. "Once you go, you'll know." |

Depends on what you are looking for and how long you want to be there and how much you want to spend!!
If you want to go for a week with meals, hotel and flight included - go to Jamaica!!! It will probably work out to be cheaper for you!
If you just want a few days, don't care if your meals, hotel room or if your flight is included in your cost, then choose Miami!!!
The beaches in Jamaica are better!!!! But Miami is nice as well!!! |

Jamaica is nice, but very commercialized. The only thing I think Jamaica has over Miami is interesting natural sights like Cliffs and hills. That's it. Miami does have the largest Coral Reef in the Northern Hemisphere and the Florida Everglades.
Miami has a world Famous night life. World Famous beaches. It is a big city, a major international hub and financial centre. Lots of things to do. It is a major world city. Jamaica does not have anything Miami has to offer and Miami has just about anything Jamaica would have. |

Although Jamaica is overly commercialized and the natives don't get a red cent from tourism, I say Jamaica. They have beautiful sandy, white beaches. There are many places to see, like Bob Marley museum, Fern Gully, Dunns River in Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Negril, plus the food is execellent. |
