DEFINATELY NOT DOLLARS you will be charged 10% conversion to the convertible peso. They are more than happy to take our lovely pound notes and credit cards that are not connected in any way to a US bank. So no Amex or MBNA.
Be aware that you have to buy a tourist card to get in and also have to pay to get out again.
Watch out for fake cigars as well.
Best buy: Havana Club añejo 7 años |

I think that euros, because the intermediate bank of cuba are in euros, and you can chage it everywhere the sterling pounds not, but ever go to Cuba with usd dollars. to see the change take a look in www.ihtworld.com and for and travel also another obtion: www.ivt-cuba.com |

The reason why the Bastard Castro will not take US Dollars is because Euros and Sterlings are worth more. Has nothing to do with US embargos. The embaro is the United States will not allow anything in from Cuba not vise versa. Castro does not like the fact that the US will not do business with communists. I have family there and I hear it first hand how they have nothing and all the tourists have everything and there is no way out for them. Believe me if they could get out they would just that bastard won't let them leave.
But back toyour question - take Euros which he loves. |

We were in Cayo Coco in Cuba April this year and we took Sterling with us, our hotel had a little bank were we could change our money for Cuban Peso and we got a really good exchange rate, never ripped off once, our hotel also allowed you to use either Master Card or Visa Card too, as far as I am aware all the hotels have this facility, as soon as you land and get through customs you can change some money at the airport, a word of advice for you, the Cubans are the most fantastic people you could ever wish to meet, but do not buy beer off the coach drivers who take you to your hotel as they are cheeky devils who charge you either £2 sterling per bottle or 5 Cuban Peso for 2 and that is expensive as the hotel shops sell it for less than a Peso a bottle, but if your going All Inclusive you will never have to buy a drink anyhow, these guys at the airport know you are desperate for a cold beer when you get off the plane so make money out of you, we were there for 2 weeks and spent very little money, we took £500 with us, went on trips and bought gifts and when we got to the airport to come home we still had £200 left, hope you have a fantastic time it is a beautiful place with beautiful people and I wish I was going back tomorrow, good luck |

Do not take US Dollars as you'll have problems with anything American due to embargos. Sterling cash is what you have to take and you swap to 'convertable pesos' when you are there. I went in March and took sterling and sterling travellers cheques issued by Mastercard. If you do take any travellers cheques they cannot be anything associated with a US bank such as American Express. Same with any cards. Take sterling cash is the advice. You used to be able to change US dollars but it changed quite recently. You'll have a fab time, we did. |
