If you are going to be a tourist, fly into Montego Bay and then head for some other area. Kingston has few tourist attractions and generally isn't worth the time to travel from another section of Jamaicamon. As for staying in MoBay, there really isn't a city center. Most of the resort beaches are man-made in the MoBay area. If you haven't been out of your country before, try an all-inclusive in Negril, Discovery Bay, Ocho Rios (to name the popular areas). If you have been outside your country before, be brave and book a regular hotel and then get out and enjoy the real Jamaicamon.

Montego is a better choice.

Just like America and any other developing country there are people who will distort your travel and try to make you uncomfortable.

Jamaica is a wonderful place. I believe though to go to Ocho Rios.

Most definitely Montego Bay. It is cleaner much more welcoming, way more beautiful lots to do and less likely to be harassed. Enjoy

Neither...go to Negril. It's nicer. The hotels are nicer, the beach is nicer. If you decide to go to Negril, don't take the bus ride. It's 45 minutes to 1 hour sometimes longer..they make some stops along the way. Charter your own plane. You can do it right in the airport in Jamaica. Timm air is the one I used. It costs about $80 per person round trip and you get to Negril in 15 minutes. Your hotel will pick you up from the airport in Negril. It was 2 blocks away from our hotel but they still picked us up. Timm Air called the hotel ahead of time and had the van ready for us when we landed.

Go to Montego Bay. Kingston isn't a very safe area. Negril is very boring. I've stayed in Negril and there isn't much to see and do. You're just stuck at your resort the whole week.

Montego Bay has plenty to see and do and is alot of fun. If you go during the Regaee Sumfest, you'll have loads of fun. It's 5 exciting nights of regaee bands which are awesome. This year they are having the fest July 19-25. All the top regaee acts are there. It is the place to be. Also, Rose Hall Great House is very interesting. It's the former home of a Jamaican witch who practiced voodoo. Cornwall Beach is great for sunbathing, snorkling, or scuba diving. The Accompong Maroon Tour is very good. It explains the history and culture of the Maroons, which includes meeting a bush doctor and watching Maroon singers and dancers. Dr. Cave's Bathing Club has a relaxing beach and water to soothe yourself. The Gallery of West Indian Art has art displayed from all over the Caribbean, including carvings and paintings. For something more adventerous, the Jamaican Zipline Adventure Tour is exciting. Also, very safe to do and very professional employees. Fantastic scenery. Rocklands Bird Sanctuary has lots of hummingbirds among a tropical setting. Nice place to visit. Harbour Street in Montego Bay is an open-air market and the place to shop for all sorts of goodies. There are plenty of good restaurants for real Jamaican food. Happy travels!

Im staying with family and going to stay just outside Kingston.

Kingston is safe if your wise. Try to Blend in. Montego Bay is for tourists and that's not what the REAL JAMAICA is like. Although depends what you want, a relaxing holiday or a holiday with alot of things to do. I love Kingston been 8 times not one problem. Theres nothing wrong with kingston its like London.

Personally Kingston don't listen when people say its not safe , most of the people that say its not safe havent been there

Hello, Montego Bay is by far the better place to stay in Jamaica or Ocho Rios. Lots of attractions in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios and the Beach is much more wonderful on the North Coast.
This site have some attractions you can look on.

Highly Favoured
You can choose Montego Bay over Kingston as a visitor. Nevertheless, you can try Ocho Rios instead. There is a nice hotel name Riu.

Jamaica has two airports Kingston and Montego Bay.

Since first impressions are important to enjoying your vacations....You should fly into Montego Bay BUT there are many hotels, Negril, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay that have round trip transportation from the Montego Bay airport to the surrounding towns and hotels that it suits you to land in beautiful Montego Bay where you have the beaches on one side of the road and the mountains on the other side.

There are many day trips and places to visit once you arrive. The tourist board would be happy to send you brochures or you can look up trips on line,,,from horse back riding to banana plantation visits. Many nightclubs, restaurants and tours offered by the hotels.

Jamaica has so much variety. We have the National Dance Theater during some seasons. So get as much information about the island before you go and then decide how much you want to see and how much you want to just relax on the beach.

Jamaica is the largest English speaking Caribbean island.

I do agree with others who know going to a capital city like Kingston is like going to any other city you have to be careful.(Montego Bay is busy too, but beautiful) My favorite is Ocho Rios. The good thing is you can go on day tours and check more than one place in Jamaica.

Travel anywhere abroad in a strange city and you have to be on your guard
