Barbados is the best. Warm weather and the best beaches in the world. We are known as the gem of hte Caribbean with good reason |

My first response is, "the next island I'm on". A lot depends on how active your dad is and if this is going to be a once in a life time experience. For easy and manueverable, I'd choose Grand Bahama's My Lucaya. For the best all round Caribbean experience, I'd choose St. Maarten. For enchantment, St. Bart's. |

From my personal experiences, I say Barbados. It has a lot to offer ranging from sightseeing to duty-free shopping to beaches to nightlife to food/drinks. It's the island that has me keep coming back to.
For your father, it has to be an island matching his description, i.e. what he wants to do, etc..
Hope this helps with his decision. |

Grand Cayman. Has the world famous Seven Mile Beach and is the most relaxing place to stay.
I stayed at Harbour Heights: http://www.harbourheightscayman.com/
Check out the site, there are rates and photos too. |

Undoubtedly St. Maarten/St. Martin has it all:
1) Beautiful beaches on both sides of the island-clothing optional beaches include Orient beach on the french side (east end of island) and Cupecoy which straddles both sides on the west end of the island.
2) Water sports of all kinds-name it, they have it.
3) Night life-There is something happening every night of the week, once you know where to go. Pick up one of the many guides; you'll find them in the airport. Don't miss "two for tuesday" at the greenhouse, located at Bobby's Marina on the east end of Phillipsburg (the capital of Dutch side).
4) Dining-eat in or you can go to any number of fine restaurants scattered all over the island. Ask the locals where "Johnny B's under the tree" is if you like inexpensive barbeque. For dining in they have supermarkets conveniently located on both sides of the island for food shopping.
5) Shopping- St. Maarten can't be beat, especially in the Dutch capital of Phillipsburg. Duty free shopping, and I can almost guarantee you'll be pooped at the end of the day. Shopping is also decent in Marigot, the french side capital.
6) Gambling- all of the casinos are located on the dutch side, and if memory serves me correctly there are about 7 of them (but don't quote me on that one).
7) Tours-tours of the island or of neighboring islands are also available in St. Maarten. The island of Saba about an hour away by boat is the original "Skull Island" the 1933 version of King Kong was shot on.
If there is anything I've left out I apologize, but I think I've covered about everything except car renting. You almost HAVE to rent a car so you can go to all the different places of interest (shopping, beaches, golf, etc.) Insist on a car with a french tag even if you are renting on the dutch side (which most tourists do) because the dutch tags are sought after by thieves, but no one cares about the french tags and if you return the car without a tag, it will cost you more money.
Well, that's about it, but what I've told you should give you a pretty good idea what to expect and also give you a good head start towards enjoying your vacation. Good luck!! |
