Nassau all the way!
When I got off my cruise ship at freeport i was very disappointed, i was like ugh. Its kind of an ugly place actually. A bunch of factory looking things. You have to go far out to go anywhere interesting. Luckily we had a shore excursion planned where we got on a bus and went far out of the main part of freeport to go to a dolphin encounter thing. Which, wasn't that great because it was so expensive and only like 3 minutes with the dolphin. But Nassau was great! so much to do! Atlantis is great and the main part of Nassau is great because they have so many great shops and restaurants. I love Senor Frog's it's a wild restaurant and they have a hard rock cafe in nassau as well. Nassau is definitely the best!

Most people prefer Nassau (which is on New Providence Island) to Freeport (on Grand Bahama Island). There is a wider variety of things to do in Nassau, which is the capital. Both islands have lots of hotels, shopping, gambling, nice beaches, golfing and water sports. Freeport/Grand Bahama doesn't have as many options and the island itself isn't as scenic as New Providence.

First, neither one is an island...they are both cities. Nassau is the capital, and largest city in the Bahamas, on New Providence Island. It has the casinos nearby and lots of tourists, and a lot of the traditional locales, like the open market, and government buildings, etc.; but I found the city to be rather dirty and the beaches unexciting.

Freeport is on Grand Bahama Island, and has become a more touristy place too. It's a bit newer than Nassau, but not as big. Some people like it better, but it isn't as big, and doesn't have all the big city amenities. I think the beaches are supposed to be nicer, though. I liked West End, on the other end of Grand Bahama, but Freeport isn't a bad place.

Personally, if I were going, I'd prefer to be away from all the tourists and go to one of the "out islands". But for a first trip, I don't think either Nassau or Freeport are bad choices. It just depends on what kind of things you want to do while you're there.

Enjoy your trip!

Well for one, both freeport and nassau are cities. Freeport is the largest city on New Providence while Nassau is the Capital city of the entire country found on New Providence Island. Nassau is the larger city so your best bet is Nassau.

Freeport and Nassau are cities, not islands. Nassau is the larger city.
