I have to agree with both Trinigirl and Jouvertgirl. Rudder and Stalin are the best calypsonians around right now. Rudder's poetic command of the English language is ridiculous (sticky mango juice running down my Caribbean belly??come one now!) and Stalin has a huge socially conscious heart and mind. I mean, just check out the lyrics to Wait Dorothy. I love them both, difficult to choose. |

Hmmmmm, good question.
Because most of our artists no longer sing calypso per se, this is difficult to answer. Most of our legends are silent.
I would have to say David Rudder, because he still has somewhat of a voice as far a calypso is concerned. |

I'd have to agree with Nyla on Chalkdust.
He was one of my professors at the University of the Virgin Islands on St. Thomas. Hes an amazing musician and a great teacher!! |
