Who has been to Cuba ???

i'm off to cuba next week but have heard stories about them not allowing various electrical items into the country, dvd players, play stations etc.

No Problem taking your Ipod. Have a great time, it is a beautiful country with beautiful/friendly people. The only ones who have anything bad to say are Americans, and they're the ones who have never been there, what the hell would they know?

Enjoy it, you'll have a great time.

There used to be a restriction on VCR's and DVD players (see below)

Electrical equipment

Cuba’s electricity is 110 volts, 60Hz, but most hotels and resorts have 220 volts. Electrical outlets take flat plug prongs. If you’re bringing an electrical appliance, check before you leave to see if you need an adaptor or converter.

(new) VCR and DVD players are now allowed into Cuba:

Cuban customs has lifted the restrictions on the importation of VCR and DVD players into Cuba. Starting May 1st, 2007 travelers can bring them into the country regardless the type, brand or model, including the built-in ones in other equipments.

Tourists are allowed to take their personal effects which include the articles (new or used) that they reasonably need for their holidays (according the length and purpose of the trip), plus: sport equipment, jewels, photographic camera, camcorder, cellular phones, blackberries, laptops, Ipods, MP3 players, video games, hair dryers, electric shavers, binoculars, one portable radio receiver, tape recorder, one portable music instrument and a sound recording device.

I went last year and didn't have any problems with my ipod etc.
Best to keep stuff like that in your hand luggage though as bags frequently go missing in Cuban airports!!

Had a great time though, hope you do too.

Starting June 1 they remove the restrictions against DVDs and other electronics devices so there's no problem ,just keep it with you on your hand luggage

You can take your ipod with you, but to re-charge it for use will be an issue. Because Cuba lacks certain resources and such resources are rationed out to each household including commercial/tourist facility, running water, food, electricity and gas are rare commodities for the Cuban economy to come by. When you visit, you must be mindful of how much you consume. How much water does it actually take to flush a toilet? How much electricity do you actually use throughout the day? How much food do you eat in a day? In the early 1990s Cuba's majority population had very little access to such resources that we as Americans or Eurpeans take for granted. In fact, many Cubans were without water, food, and/or electricity, let alone gasoline. many were without cars. Some even suffered from malnutrition and starvation from being without food. those without electricity and running water learned to survive day-to-day by doing things during day-light hours and/or by walking miles to and from the nearest water well.
Even more recently, Cubans lack these resources in their households and electricity consumption is rationed as is food, and water.

I say be mindful of how much you use. Be conservative when you use these resources.

I was there in 2001 and it humbled me to conserve how much i used, especially when i lived with a family for three months to see how much rationing and conserving water, food and electricity impacted their lives and their community.

Not Telling
I would recommend not having it out, keep it packed and don't broadcast it to the world. I was born in Cuab and they don't encourage foreign electronics, I'm sure it will be fine though! Enjoy yourself!

I just came from cuba on 05/26 law has changed you can take your ipod with you a digital camera a video camera , a dvd player ( they will charge you for it like 60 cuban convertible pesos ) , I left most of them to my family. there was no problems, you are allowed to take up to 30 kilos of clothes with you without being charged ,if you have medicines they would not charge you for that ,I had like 10 lbs of medicines in my suitcase and i told them so , they help me get it out ( it was in a separate little handbag) and they re-weight my big suitcase so the medicine would not count. No complaints at all , the treatment was nice. if you have more questions i can help you clarify any doubts. I was there for two weeks , rented a car as well. good memories.

They would not allow me to bring my lightsaber in. Fortunately I was able to injure Castro with Force lightning. Do not believe the propaganda about "stomach cancer". Castro now understands the true power of the dark side.
