Why are cuban cigars illegal in the US? |
my dad bought 3 (for $80 yeah, ik) for his friend who smokes, but he had to throw them out at border patrol when we were coming into the US

Many people know that Cuban cigars are illegal to sell in the United States but are hazy to the reasons why. I thought I would look up the information for you because it is pretty interesting that a cigar that is thought to be the best to be illegal in America. Some would say that Cuban cigars are only rivaled by those created in Honduras or Nicaragua. Cuban cigars get their amazing taste from the climate conditions found in Cuba that are perfect for tobacco growing. The Cuban government overseas every brand that creates Cuban cigars and profits of them. Cuban cigars became illegal to be distributed or used in America in 1962 when JFK put a trade embargo against Cuba. This embargo was placed in order to take power away from Fidel Castro's communist government. As of 2007 the embargo still stands but you can find and purchase Cuban cigars in Canada. Most US custom officials will let a small amount of Cuban cigars come into America as long as the brands are taken off them before hand. |

the usa placed a trade embargo on Cuba because many years ago they allowed the russian government to place a base on cuba with missiles that were intended to be used to attack the USA. as punishment and to make an example for the world the USA said that noone could do business with cuba, people from Cuba arent allowed to sell or buy goods from anyone and i dont think there even allowed to leave the country (i may be wrong there) if you were to go to cuba right now it would be a little like going back in time, all there cars are old, like from the 50's and 60's because they cant bring any new cars in,same with alot of things.
Cuban cigars are the best in the world but they are illegal in the USA. i think its about time we lift the embargo, im not sure why they continue to enforce it. |
