There is a stronger sense of community that exists in most parts of Jamaica. I would say that it was even stronger in the past. There is an established culture of warmth and hospitality towards visitors to our 'home' in one sense or the other.
There is also a sense of national pride. Every Jamaican can name at least 3 fellow countrymen who have made an international impact coming from this tiny island. Combine that with positive images of our tourism product, and most people here believe in helping to extend that image. |

We love tourists an are very curious so we be nice to find out about them. In the past and still in rural areas whether you live there or not everyone is your neighbour (well at least most people). But because of the increasing violence this is rapidly changing. |

Your question confuses meâ„¢

It's in our blood!
We are just generally nice and friendly people
Although I cannot say that for all of us! |

cuz from birth thats how we are socialized i remember i used to get scolded if i forgot to say good morning to an elder. Its something embedded in our culture which probably stems from our Christian based homes, education system and culture which teaches good will to others and kindness. |

That's just part of who Jamaican are.
My brother-in-law was surprised how everyone embraced him immediately when he visited Jamaica.
Americans in the South I find very friendly.
If you are not friendly to strangers, here in the U S, its normal and it may be hard for you to understand. Plus sometimes there is no sincerity that goes along with the smile.
It is wonderful to be able to call on neighbors to help and not feel like you are imposing. You do not have to pay Jamaicans for doing everything either.
Its just a completely different way of life in the Caribbean. |

It is part of the Jamaican culture to be courteous to strangers...but lately its been getting tough down there, so I'd watch out for the "friendly" ones if I were you. |
