Why are many latins so selfish and proud? |
I can hardly live here in Puerto Rico because of all this pride, they think that they are the best people in the universe,
I ounce heard a quote," The world is divided into two parts, the latin, and who envy us."
I wont stand for that crap!
I can hardly live well here, because if your a little different, a little formal, a little blonde, you can expect all sort of crap.
Just a few day ago, I got called some serious sh!t, from a bunch of hillbilly rednecks!!!
Why are many latins so damn egoistical!!
And I know about this because I am latin, just that I have no interest in that culture.
Well, im proud to say that, I don't park my car and throw beer cans on my precious green lawn!!
And if I could leave, I would, only I can't since im underaged. Additional Details Id rather be individual.. sorry. I always worked better alone. |

I'm very SAD you feel that way, but everybody is entitled to they're opinion, now...
...About the quote: Don't take it too seriously because it is not meant to be arrogant or anything like that, it is suppose to be taken sarcastically.
About the hillbilly rednecks: Obviously you can't not be referring to a PuertoRican as a redneck because there aren't any PuertoRican rednecks, ya hear me boy! (just kidding!!) But really, that is just not possible they are adopted or raised in the sates in the country side or something.
Anybody who reads this correct me if I'm wrong but I have yet heard of a 'Puerto Rican Redneck' (it does not make sense).
Too bad your not interested in YOUR own culture. There is soo much to learn about us and where you come from, soo many things have been accomplished by Hispanics (proper word if you are referring to those who speak spanish or come from families that do and/or countries where spanish is spoken, since latinos are those who come from latin countries, countries whose language is one of the romance languages - languages derrived from the latin - , which are all Hispanics countries plus Brasil, Portugal, Italy and France and some people might argue that Romania should be included in this group too since romanian is a romance language too.
Well in general you can not judge everyone by the actions of a few. I'm very sorry if your experience living in my lovely island and country has not been what you wanted it to be but may be should try being a little less judgemental and treating people as individuals (like you said you are) and not the way you sound, talking about Puerto Ricans in general instead of talking about the few that have given you a hard time.
I really hope that the time you have left in Puerto Rico turns out to be better and that you enjoy it to the fullest because we really have a beautiful country, culture and people and we are super fun too. There is lots of things to do to have fun in the island and not be bored.
And by the way Puerto Ricans are NOT the only proud race or nation, anyone who loves they're roots, culture and country and where they come from is proud too and there is NOTHING wrong with being proud of who you are and where you come from, on the contrary it's good thing.
Said by: ME, a very proud Puerto Rican who loves ALL cultures and people!! |

When we want to believe something - everything we see seems to offer us proof of it. The reality is often a mixture of both what we believe and what we don't want to see.
Calm down and realise that many Puertoricans around you are not arrogant and selfish. Seek out these people and hang around them. Avoid the arrogant and jingoistic ignoramuses.
Do this, and you will think better of your peers and think better of yourself. |

latinos have a very deep rooted history. like any culture with a deep rooted history, they're educated from a young age to love where they're from. and is that bad? it gives people the sense that they're a part of something.
some countries, like the usa, for example, don't really share that. so, if one's comparing latinos to americans, yeah, latinos could be called egotistical and proud. but if you compare latinos to italians, or greeks or any other group of people, they're the same. |

Dont let people make you hate your own people. Latinos have a strong culture, big connection to each other. Americans fuction under individuallity while people of other culturs struggle collectively, which Americans jelous!
You dont have to be a stereotype and You dont stereotype those who you belong too. You dont want to be an outcast at both intervals! |

Some people just have a lot of pride for their culture. Being latina, I know that I need to make it clear that I'm proud to be a latina when I feel I've been insulted about my race. Some people just feel they need to reassure themselves by being arogant because they need to reassure themselves that they are bigger than anyone of any other race. It's not only latins, it just depends on the mind-set of the person towards their heritage. Don't worry, just know that they have insecurities if they need to be egotistical about their heritage and that you're the better person in walking away. |

You are lying! You dont live in Puerto Rico. Because first off most puerto ricans that act all boastfull lke that are the ones that live in the US, bc they want people to acknowledge where theyre from. In PR people dont tend to act that way so much. 2nd of all, you say people give you crap because your blonde? Well there are tons of blonde haired puerto ricans, if you lived there you would know. Maybe they give you crap because your a gringo, not cause your blonde. & why are you stereotyping everyone saying they park the cars in their lawn? You are definitely an american. & who cares where people park their car? You are a racist I would say.
Yes latino people are very proud, but so are every other ethnicity in this world. |

Because us latins are very proud of our culture and race because many of us have overcome big struggles in life being acccepted and understood in society we are very close people to our family and friends and are in no way selfish i do not know where you got that from we are always inviting people to join our culture and understand us.... if you have a problem with puerto rico why live there anyway if you go to ANY other foreign country they are the same any country is proud and protective including enlgish countrys such as england and america i'm a cuban living in england and have seen how proud british people are you should stop living up and listening to stereotypes and maybe make some friends with hispanics and get some knowledge before you post questions like these |

So you think that there are no selfish and proud white people; You are wrong and naive if you think so. You really need to travel to open your eyes; the real world is not like in the movies and TV.
And most importantly: Don't you sound selfish and proud talking trash about your own people?
I guess you are one of those latins that think that being blond makes them better than the rest. Sorry bro but for the white people you will always be a latin no matter how blond you are. |

i didnt get where u originally from, but that does not matter, thats not the case. the most important thing is that if u dont feel happy in a place u dont have to be there. if u dont like to live in puerto rico u dont have to live here. well u said u were underaged, so i guess u are in high school or maybe middle school, but after u finish just go were ever u feel happy.
even underaged kids have the courage to move on with there lives, do u have a relative in another country u can count on and move with? look for other alternatives.
the only thing i dont agree with u is generalizing every latino. remember that not everyone is the same. i was born in NY and raised in FL, but live in puerto rico and once i finish i'll go back to USA. its hard for me to understand people and get along with them, not because of their pride, because im proud to be latina and have parents of puerto rican decent and the cultural history is very interesting, but its more because of the beaurocracy.
ive lived my whole life in USA and i dont get mad when ignorant racist people get in my nerves, or rednecks or when americans put a flag with the we are united slang. im an american and because im latina people still descriminate in the united states, so we are going to have social problems everywhere we go. in puerto rico there is blonde and blue eyed or green eyed people as well, so i dont know why they would see u differently, but i guess its with once self-esteem and since u dont get along with people here, every little thing is going to bother u.
i suggest u move and brighten your life some where else, if u stay here u will get so depressed and anxious to leave that u can become mentally ill, which is already affecting your emotional feelings with hate toward latinos. move on. |

I don't know why they're like that either. In my opinion, it seems to be Puerto Ricans who act like that the most. I grew up in an area where the majority of people are from there, or are from that decent, and they are very ignorant. I'm not saying ALL Puerto Ricans are ignorant, and think everyone's jealous of them because I've known some who are anything but that. The ones who do act how you describe don't know anything different, and believe that there the best because it's all they know. |
