?

Because the Cuban people are being squeezed in every direction from the Government that controls them.No freedom of speech no human rights NO LIFE. I have been living here in Cuba for only a few months, but have been visiting for a few years.I am thinking of leaving and going back home, just as soon as i can, and if that means leaving my husband behind then so be it, I can not live my life in these conditions but unfortunately for me at this moment in time it is not that simple.I have just spent a few days in hospital, which i would not recommend to any one, and i am unable to travel just now. I have made a big sacrifice coming here. Now i have to make another sacrifice. someone told me that i have to think very hard about what i loose to what i gain. I have lost a great deal, however i am lucky i can leave as i am not Cuban.Yes every country has its problems but these problems can be sorted, here in Cuba there is no way to sort its problems until Fidel and his brother are under ground, If one is not happy with the current government one can vote them out , in Cuba one has no choice, well there is a choice go against the government and get shot or live with it.When the Cubans do try leave for a better life in another country they get ridiculed for this also.Is there no escape or peace for them?
The people who give thumbs down are ignorant to the situation and will always remain ignorant to the situation.
If i could take every Cuban who wanted to leave the country with me when i leave i would.
Those who are say us foreigners living in Cuba know nothing, well i can not speak for others but i know a lot about Cuba, ,Yes i have the internet , but that is because my professional background and knowledge, has given me a way of sorting this out.Maybe i do have a few more luxuries than most Cuban people but this does not make me ignorant to the facts.Does this mean i am a bad person because i want to make life a little easier for my husband and his family, is this not what Cubans leaving the country are trying to do.

Mmm why is the sky blue?! Oh wait, that one is hard...

Good morning. I assume that you fell asleep 50 years ago and now you awoke. Welcome back !

I can give you the simple answer, but to really understand it, you must live in Cuba, but not as some people that claim to be not Cubans and they live in Cuba, but as us.

Our country is a comunist dictatorship, with absolute lack of liberty. You are told what to do, when to do it, and how to do it.
Any disagreement and you are put in the tank, shot, tortured, or who knows

Oh, for the same reason that they are leaving Mexico, Puerto Rico, Haiti and Jamaica ? That is a good one

Therefore, in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Haiti, and Jamaica there are also comunist governments ? Pleeeease !

'Taker
Because it's freakin' Cuba! A communist nightmare.
I be outta there too, even if I had to swim for it!

Because they tell the people what they can and cannot do. They haven't been able to have cars in there since the 50's, they make little or no money for working and everything costs alot.

Welcome to planet Earth ! We earthlings come in peace

As somebody said, why is the ski blue ? Some of the answers are very illustrative, but I will add something

It is ruled by a comunist government. That means that you have no freedom at all. The State controls EVERYTHING !

I am not going to enter in the economic aspect. That is not the case

Oh, those wise people that claim to live in Cuba and know so much about Cuba despite not being Cuban !
That means that they are comunists as well, because that is the only way for a foreigner to live in Cuba

Hum, the answers that mention comunism have received three thumbs down. It seems that some people cannot tolerate the truth. Typical of comunists

For the same reason that they are leaving Mexico and Puerto Rico and Haiti and Jamaica etc etc. Because they hope to better themselves economically.

(If the may reason were political, why aren't Cuban trying to get to the "free" "democratic" countries nearby - and why are inhabitents of those countries trying to get to the US, too ?

The US - Cuba situation is also affected by the Cuban Adjustment Act which basically means that any Cuban who gets to the US - legally or illegally - and stays a year, can apply for US residency. No other country has such a rule.

I guess because the US or UN has an international block to the iland
