we are "allowed" to go to Cuba, we are not "allowed" to spend money in Cuba due to the Embargo. Current U.S. law strictly limits permitted travel to Cuba to journalists, official Congressional visits, persons engaged in educational purposes, and family visits by Cuban-Americans. In all cases, there are specific limits regarding the transport of money and goods, and in certain cases, the frequency of visits. There are also limits on items that may be brought back into the U.S. by people permitted to travel to Cuba. |

It is not illegal to travel to Cuba, the US has placed restrictions on travel for Americans to Cuba making it virtually impossible to travel there for say a vacation, without facing some type of consequence. but the US would not say Americans just can't go there, cause that would sort of defeat the purpose or defintion of democracy for the US wouldnt it? Instead the have tons of regulations and restrictions....
1. You need a license.
2. You can only get one for certain fields and tourism isnt one of them.
3. To top it off you can only spend a ceratin amount (I belive it has been changed to $200) or face penalties.

The travel ban was lifted by Jimmy Carter, but was reimposed by Ronald Reagan when he took over in 1981. The U.S. has a trade embargo on Cuba mainly because many exiles on the island wish to force the Castro regime to run dry of money. This way they can take vengeance on Castro for nationalizing their properties and confiscating their assets. Many exiles in South Florida vote Republican. Cubans in New Jersey vote Democrat. Since Florida is a swing state, Republicans want to appease the huge Cuban population in South Florida so that it can impact them in a national electing. Many Republicans (especially from Midwest states) are against the embargo. The embargo is a relic of the past that only allows Castro to blame the U.S. for all the island's troubles. The majority of Americans are against the embargo, however chances of lifting seem faint at the moment. |

all you need to know about the wonderful perfect government of Cuba is
tens of thousands have tried to flee Cuba since Castro took over. Most in desperate circumstances.....lashing inner tubes together to try and float 90 miles across the Straights to Florida.....
Thousands have died trying to do this.
Thousands more, knowing the odds, try it every year.
So how great a government is it that so many prefer a 50-50 chance of dying rather than staying? |

I think they were cut off after the Cuban missle crisis and no one ever bothered to lift the ban. The question is, how come Cubans still come here? |

Because Americans hate commies and will for sure try to kill Castro.( is he still alive?) |

Because Cuba is a Communist country. Cuban and Americans are on different poles so they might clash. |
