Why as a citizen in a free country I cannot travel to Cuba? Am I really living in a free country? |
The government keeps telling me I am free and live in the freest country of the world, yet will not allow me to travel to Cuba. A country we are not at war with, and one that is not attacting our citizens. But I can go to China, a country that does not allow personal freedom to its people, and one that has killed it own people because they wanted to be free. |

Obviously the U.S. is not the freest country in the world despite the constant propaganda you are fed from day one. Cuba certainly has its problems but as l;ong as the South Florida anti-Castro movement continues to promote its agenda and the politicos look for votes, change will take some time. It's unfortunate because the poor Cubans are the ones suffering not the big shots. |

Perhaps this question should be in the Politics section.
PS I spend time in a small apartment in central Cuba. Love it. Cubans are very kind and I feel secure there. |

You can not only travel to Cuba, you can STAY there and enjoy the Cuban style of freedom. Just fly through Canada or Mexico.
Buy a one-way ticket to Cuba and enjoy the rest of your life! |

Well the fact is that one can travel to Cuba but any such travel has to be authorized by the U.S. Treasury Department due to the long-standing embargo against the island nation. Treasury licenses are usually issued to journalists, athletes, religious missionaries and workers, and Cubans who have family members on the island. The embargo stays in place due to lobbyists hired by the Cuban exile community in South Florida who feels that the embargo will make Castro's regime run dry on funds when in fact it only has made him stronger. Outliving 8 U.S. presidents only shows that embargo is outdated and needs to be ended.
Yes you can travel to China but not freely. You just can't pick up your bags and fly to China at this very moment as you need to apply for a visa, pay associated fees and wait to see if you are granted approval to enter. Therefore if you look at it unless the nation you plan on visiting doesn't have any visa requirements then truly it's not a "free" country to visit. |

Because the "you live in a free country" is the biggest piece of propaganda they ever teach you in school. I'm not free enough to decide whether I wish to wear a seatbelt. I'm not free enough to decide if I want to swim in a lake or a creek that the state has determined to be unsafe. I'm not free enough to decide whether I want to travel to Cuba. No you're not living in a free country.
If you do travel to Cuba through Canada or another country without permission from our "free country", and you're caught (and they seem to catch a lot of people), you will be fined thousands dollars. Again, not free. |

as was said.....go live in Cuba, see what its like to live in a free country and then maybe you'll understand why so many have tried,,,,,and so many died.........escaping Cuba for the USA |
