Why do people go on holiday in the Carribean when it is Harricane season?

Then they start moaning that they can't get flights back to the UK!!!! Are people just so stupid?

Because it's cheaper and that is when they are able to take their main holiday, especially when they have children of school age. Besides, people are eternal optimists. Hurricanes are things which happen to other people and not them. Haven't you seen some of the answers on this page where people blithely assure wannabe holiday makers in the Caribbean that they'll be fine to go there during the hurricane season?

Well you can't predict when a hurricane will form. Sometimes when you travel s**t happens but most of the time its smooth sailing.

There is a couple of reasons for traveling to the Caribbean during hurricane season.

Cheaper rates at hotels and airlines

Children are out of school so the time frame is more convenient to the family schedule

People do take chances, thinking nothing is going to happen. (no hurricanes)

Most people from the UK have never experienced a hurricane, they don't realize how dangerous it can be. They figure a day of rain and all will be good again. But when a cat 4 or cat 5 comes along the panic sets in.

Our prayers are with the islands of the Caribbean.)

We were invited to a friends wedding there, cursing the whole time how could they plan it during the hurricane season, but thought at least it was at the begining and from what we read the serious ones didnt happen until later in the season.

We left before there was much of a rumble of Dean.

Now for the airlines. We did get a flight back, with lots and lots of help from the people back here. All the airlines provide for you is they're automated response, so most were on hold 15-45 minutes even in an evacuation/emergency situation, took us 6 tries to even get thru. Most paid $700-$1500 for a flight on an airline they were already booked to return on. It was pretty obvious the airlines were not interested in getting people out before it hit.

Because travel agencies advertise them as cheaper. And travelers don't do research.

Its the cheapest time to go obviously and they hope it wont happen to them

Most people rely on the holiday agents to inform them it is hurricane season or there is a problem. My friends daughter is in Mexico at the moment on her honeymoon and she was not informed of any problems when she booked the holiday 3 months ago, and the agent did not call her to inform her of any problems even though she requested they did. she is at the moment helping the hotel staff batten down the hatches and she is far from stupid.

They go there for a lot of reasons (i.e. cheaper deals, weddings to attend to, vacations (because this is the only time they have off work), family/friends. Plus, travel agencies don't always tell travellers what they needed to know.

So stupidness is not the question. Only people can be stupid if they're not responsible enough.

I don't know. I would never plan a trip like that during Hurrican Season. Your whole trip could be ruined and vacations are precious these days.

ctelly22
Because they enjoy the Caribbean and aren't going to stop enjoying life because of the threat of a hurricane. Besides that's what travel insurance is for.

CruiseSource.us
Travel Agents travel to the Caribbean during hurricane Season on cruise ships. We do it because during the beginning and middle of the summer it is more expensive to travel with our families then it is in middle and late August.

I recommend Cruise Vacations during Hurricane Season because the ships navigate around the storm. I personally would not go to Cancun for a week long vacation during hurricane season. If you are going to book travel during hurricane season protect your investment by purchasing travel insurance.

In 2006, we only had 5 cruise sailings impacted by hurricanes. This past week several ships had to change their itineraries...but that is better than being stuck in Jamaica.

Loulou
Because people are idiots!!! They are not real travellers! Real travellers would do research and would not go at that time! Serves them right really.

God help the Carribean people.
