Why do would anybody want to avoid KINGSTON and its the best place in JAMAICA?

Diva's answer is WAY off.

Kingston is a REAL city. It has dangerous places, safe places, fun places and 'normal' places. Its the heart of most of the Jamaican popular culture.

The MAIN reason why most tourist would avoid Kingston is that its TOO COMPLICATED. Why would one want to be on vacation and worrying about traffic and security and noise and all those things? A resort is a better escape from reality.

Business travellers come to kingston EVERY DAY and they arent being robbed one at a time. They actually enjoy their stay just fine.

Wow, and to think I went to Kingston and made it out alive. Come on you guys, I had no problems there. I agree with the question asked. Even spent some time in Trenchtown. How was I finally going to make it to Kingston and not see Trenchtown? Marcus Garvery's grave. Bob Marley's House. Tuff Gong Studios. National Stadium. Emancipation Park. Just talking about it makes me want to spend a few more days there when I go visit again in March. It did take me several trips to Jamaica to finally make my way to Kingston, but I am really glad I did. The place I stayed was pretty low-budget though. That was the only down part.

Because Kingston is a city, and most people go to Jamaica for the beaches. It is best to travel to different areas. The Knutsford Express is like a Greyhound Bus. Its very reasonable and takes you all over. Spend a couple days in different areas.

There are museums, theater, lots of shops, hotels and more variety because its the largest and most populated.

But because of that there is also the most crime...So you do have to be extra careful.

Anyone can tell you that about other large cities like Rome.

Seeing as how I'm not a local, I would probably just stick to the main 'tourist' areas. Just as I would in any other foreign city that I'm not used to or aware of the 'trouble areas'.

With that said, I feel safer in New York City than I do in Minneapolis.

Good question!

Kingston is great i wouldnt really say its the best montego bay for me is the best, kingston is quite a violent place when you hear about people dying getting shot whatever it often happens in kingston and you wouldnt really like to go somewhere where there is alot of violence really would you?

Same way how some people try to avoid NYC or London and live in the suburbs. City life tends to be congested, the crime rate is higher, pollution but most of all its have its benefits. Better opportunities, more entertainment, better transportation system etc.
