I'll correct your question in order to give you a correct answer.
Why do certain areas of Puerto Rico and the U.S. are dirty and messy according to my standards?
Regretfully, just as some individuals for example do not take pride or do not care to learn how to spell or use proper grammar, some individuals in certain areas of Puerto Rico and the U.S. also do not care and do not take pride in their neighborhood. But the lack of pride in some areas is pervasive around the world, and that is too bad. We should all do our part to keep our communities clean regardless in which part of the world we live or visit.
So what can we all do ? Clearly, we should put our trash where it belongs, in a trash can, trash bin, etc. If we see a candy wrapper on a sidewalk, on a park bench, a soda pop can on the curb, we should pick it up and dispose of it properly, preferably, in a trash bin. Remember when our mothers would tell us to pick up after ourselves, some of us learned the lesson, but others did not.
Another lesson I learned is not to complain, that makes an individual part of the problem, instead I suggest others become part of the solution.
I'll give you an example, yesterday a group of my friends and I were at the park and we noticed what appeared to be big pieces of broken glass leaning against a large trash receptacle.
One friend said, wow, that glass is very dangerous, a kid can come by and really get hurt. Another said, yes, that's dangerous, a dog running by can get badly injured. And yet a third one asked, why would anyone leave broken glass in the park? My three friends had something to say, they all were upset about the glass. They all stared at the "dangerous" glass, but that is all they did, complain and stare. I could not believe their behavior!
I simply walked forward, pulled a tissue out of my purse and one by one I picked up every piece of glass and placed it inside the receptacle. I totally agreed with what they said and how they felt, but I DID something about it.
You may say, well, I didn't do it, so am not cleaning it up. The responsibility to keep our communities clean and safe falls on everyones' shoulders, young and old. So next time you see a can, a candy wrapper, a piece of paper, pick it up and dispose of it properly. No one expects you to go and clean up a neighborhood by yourself, do what you can, every little bit helps. |

Like the saying goes: "BEAUTY is in the eye of the BEHOLDER"... to the average AmeriKan, anything that isn't AmeriKan looks strange, dirtier and messier than in AmeriKa... and yet... when I have to go to the U.S. for some reason I can't avoid... I am struck by how dirty the cities and towns are... graffiti covers any available wall, there is trash in the streets, the store windows are dirty, the houses need paint, the cars are all rusted... etc... etc... etc... and I can hardly wait to get back to my lsland where it's clean and the AIR is Breathable |
