Why doesn't Cuba kick the U.S. out of Guantanamo Bay?

I think most people around the world would support it going back to Cuba. It really makes no sense that it's there. We aren't living in the 18th Century anymore.

I TOTALLY SUPPORT YOUR FANTASTIC IDEA !

If big bad old fidel does that, the usa would likely invade cuba. We really hope to grab fidel and the little brudder before they can escape and hang them head down, like musolini

We could go there to take pictures with the stinking cadavers for posterity

Don Camilo
fidel is a criminal and a cruel bastard, but he is not crazy. He knows very well that it most likely would cause the invasion of Cuba by the USA

And why you care about that ? Are you Cuban ? If you are not, then that is none of your business

What makes no sense is that you have allowed big bad old fidel stay there for 50 years

Mark K
because we signed a lease with them that said in order for the USA to leave both sides must terminate the lease. Its a funny lease but true. Also its a Military Base with Guns and ships. that can defend themselves

Do you really think Cuba has the muscle to do that? If they could have, wouldn't they have done it by now?

The US has a legal lease of the area per treaty signed by Cuba. Besides not being able to evict the US forcibly, such action would also be illegal. The treaty was signed last century, not in the 1800s.

Probably they don't want to go into a war because of that. But, US should left Guantanamo. That part of land was taken by US practically in exchange of their independence. US invaded Cuban in 1898, then they gave them their independence, but they stayed on Guantanamo and signed the "treaty", something similar to the Panama Canal Zone, US helped Panama to obtain their independence, in exchange of make the canal and make that a US territory, but the Canal was ceded back to Panama in 1999.

I don´t think you want a war over a worthless piece of land. The US military has to get their mind set that it isn´t 18th century anymore and then convince the US government and vv.

Good question...long political ties I guess.

Although there is a "lease" and the Americans do pay a tiny annual rent. I believe it is 2 thousand dollars. It must be said that the Guantanamo Base was taken as a war prize at the end of the Spanish American war. To say that Cuba "agreed" to the lease is like saying Japan "agreed " to surrender.

It was a matter of no choice left open to them.

I really don't see the big problem with the base, except for the torture issue if that had never happened it would be a tiny isolated base that at the very least created some degree of connection between the U.S. and Cuba.

Because we take terrorists there to interrogate them so we don't have to abide by the constitution. And if they tried to kick us out they would fail terribly.
