I think that even in puertorriquenos decide to become a new state USA does not need us anymore, otherwise they will make their moves to change our status. We are a territory, a possession they are going to do with us whatever they want with us. Even if we don't like it. Shame on us. I don't hate USA, I like to have my USA passport, I studied with Federal Aids, we do not pay federal taxes but they use our kids in the war and our land to experiment with arms and medicines. I think we are even. |

this matter has been put to a vote and the people of Puerto Rico voted to maintain the status quo |

They don't want to be a part of us, they only want the benefits of our welfare system.
If they are so proud to be Puerto Rican and hate our American ways I'd like to know why we have so many here! They say they'd rather be owned by Spain, I say send them there to see what benefits they reap from that government. They are so quick to judge the USA but they don't have the comparison to back it up.
To me it's an insult.
I say if you hate our American ways so much take your inhumane c*ck-fights, your dead pit-bulls, your puerto-rican day parades and pride and leave. They're so proud of their island that they're HERE complaining about us. Go to Spain and live there, then tell us which is better. They've become parasites to our country and are only here to take like every other foreigner. I'm yet to meet a Puerto Rican that says they're glad to be here - so why are you?
All you do is tear us down then you are the first to scream racism.
In a question: Why are you here if you don't want to be?
In a word: Leave
It's as easy as a plane ticket. Go to Spain and let us know all about how much Better it is. I can't wait to hear it. |

Your question and this is my answer, NO! We are a Spanish -speaking people, our roots come from the Tainos , African and Spaniards, no way we are remotely English!!! Statehood means DEATH to us we will be fully consumed by the racism that is common to the Ingleses! Puertorico as part of Hispanic America has a strong right to self-determination!! We had it almost there in 1897, then the Spanish-American waar erupted and we ended being the war booty ,ceded by Spain to a strange English people , who to this very day , their motto is "English is better, erase our history, and let the drugs flow freely to our young people!! Yes the U.S.A gives Puertorico, cupones for food, but the food we buy has to be paid at exhorbitan prices to the U.S.A .so basically all the profit goes and comes back to the U.S.A!! We are now[Puertoricans] at a croosroad, we are given the opportunity to stand up and face the sun, or else perish forever under the dominion of English pirates! We have lost our lands, our self esteem. our culture is in chaos, our children are drugged up, no one writes any more , our art depicts skeletons [go see the exibition in Orlando of ] Puertorican art!! We are according to the words of the yanqui themselves in less than a decade ; of extinction as a people!! How is this then?? Our men arte soldiers of the ones who control everything in PuertoRico, congress and the political machine!! No, statehood for us is SUICIDE!!! The fat guys u see shouting for statehood ,are all[most went to college??] in a state of inferiority complex!! A desire to imitate the masters ,as in slavery!! Under the laws of international treaties , since Spain NEVER signed the treaty of Paris , the U.S.A must , either give us our freedom or return us to Spain !! I opt for the first one!! , Is not this word . FREEDOM a choice of the U.S.A. also?? caballero, hasta la vista! |

Puerto Rico has been to the voting a few times over it's status and many here voted to keep the island as is.
Now, many have said that all Puerto Rico wants is the benefits such as Social Security, Federal Grants, and other goodies that the United States offers.
First of all, since 1898 when the United States took Puerto Rico from Spain and claimed it as their territory, the Federal Government has always been inverting money here. A good example is when Jack Delano, the photographer for the United States Agriculture came, he spent some long years here taking photos of not only the agriculture but the island in total. His photos are excellent. Which gave more the States to keep Puerto Rico as their territory.
Since WWII, puertorricans have been in the United States Armed forces serving time as soldiers and many losing their lives. This is a big part that Puerto Rico plays in the United States and not only for aiding in the wars but also working in different cities to built help build them.
Puerto Rico has and is still giving a good fair share to the United States since 1898.
Right now many of us want state hood because we by law are United States Citizens. Also here there are many Native Americans living here and sending their children to school here. Also there are buisnesses, factories and many companys that have come here to establish their businesses. We do use American Money, we do have here the United States Post Office, we do have Fort Buchannan Military Base, and many other American facilities here.
As for taxes, we do pay taxes here on all items excluding medications, and a few other things. But we do pay taxes here. Also many do have to pay not only State income taxes but also Federal Income taxes.
Many think here that Puerto Rico will lose its culture, language and other things is becoming a state. This is wrong, here many speak English, and other languages. As for the typical Jibarito, well, instead of "Alguinaldos, Decimas" at Christmas time it is that rap that doesn't make any sence at all. As for other traditions. Many still eat rice and beans and yet they do go to McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, T.G. Friday's. They do not shop at the local colmados but at Wal-Marts, Costco, Macy's, Penny's, Sears, K-Marts just to mention a few.
Times change and people change. Puerto Rico can be State 51. |

Maria Delores said it all.......the people of Puerto Rico love their country and don't want statehood.

Muffintop:
Your figures are way outdated, that would be 4 millions and going up. No need to translate your comments.
Voting numbers for statehood have increased over the years since 1967, however we are basically:
42% in favor of the status quo, or with slight improvements,
42% in favor of statehood,
between 3% to 6% in favor of independence,
and 13% to 10% undecided and shifting from one side to the other every election or plesbicite.
Congress fear that a PR state will have right of 7 Rep to the House and 2 Senators and the majority of those be Democrats. |

Hey they already get most all the benefits we have without the burden of paying income tax and they don't have the pleasure of voting for a U.S. president. |

My friends:
Let me tell you a little about of Puerto Rico "stuff". The US does not want PR to be state 51 because they don't need it. One thing I know about and is so true!!! As soon as Puerto Rico have something to give to USA, I'm pretty sure USA will be the first one interested on the island.
It is true Puerto Rico recived help from US, and puertorricans do not vote in US elections, but thats only for the ones that live in the island because the ones that live in US does vote. About the "money" help.... well US give it because the have a lot of places in Puerto Rico that they use for the ARMY like, Roosvelt Road, Naval Base, Vieques ( not anymore but they used to), Salinas Road, La Marina Road, etc... soooo many areas that even puertorricans do not know. So that's why some puertorricans fight for everything about US issues.
I believe that by Puerto Rico been State 51 its not going to make any differences. They still can go back and foward all the time they want in USA and around the world so its not going to make any differents by having more "spanish" people. I think some americans and other latins are afraid of having them in competence.
Remember its just a little island. I cannot imagine how big it will be the issue if a country like Mexico or Venezuela become a state too. (Just a comment)
Good luck! |
