Why is Trinidad such a lawless, dangerous country to live in? |
I visited Trinidad one time, four years ago. There are no traffic cops anywhere. Police carry assault rifles and machine guns, but don't walk around and patrol. People drive like maniacs on the road, it's almost like a car chase in the movies! Stray dogs are everywhere. Kidnappings are reported daily in the news. It's dirty and trash is everywhere.
There was a famous female boxer that was killed a few days or so ago in a car accident. There was another singer or so four years ago that died in a car accident. What is the deal with Trinis? Why is your country so poorly managed? Additional Details It didn't help that there was a man with an M4 assault rifle guarding the Minister of Health at a Mall...that was scary. |

Its sad and some what disturbing to see so many people in denial about what life is like in Trinidad. Maybe it explains why the situation continues to deteriorate. It seems that too many people like things the way they are and do not put the heat on the authorities to do something.
Face the facts people. Do some research. Compare Trinidad's murder rate with Barbados, the USA, the UK, Canada. More importantly compare the rate of SOLVING serious crime with other countries.
I live in a residential area and I can tell you that as soon as darkness falls and that could be as early as 6:30pm these days everyone is locked up in their houses. Ten years ago this was not so. At that hour people used to be walking for exercise, or liming with neighbours in their yards.
So what happen? Suddenly for no reason people get paranoid? Or maybe it has to do with the FACT that several people have been help up in front their own homes in recent years. I also know of 3 residents who have been kidnapped in my area. |

I'm not from Trinidad but i actually like to visit there and i do not feel unsafe at all. One just needs to be aware of their surrondings and exercise that same caution they would else where.
There is crime all over the world, there is crazy traffic all over the world, famous or popular people die in traffic accidents in other countries. Hell, Princess Diana died in a traffic accident. Are you going to post this question under France.
Caribbean people need to come together and stop pulling down each other. The world sees us a one. So when they see crime in Trinidad they think, Damn the caribbean is a dangerous place. |

Trinidad and Tobago is such a lawless country since most of the people have given up and are satisfied living hand to mouth on government welfare.
This is the same thing that happened in Guyana years ago and most people had to leave.
The idea is this, the country is in a boom, it has a boatload of money and more.
The bigger guys are just milking it and not leaving anything for the people.
The government is stupid, they were voted in by stupid people who went for CEPEP and a free tshirt, but they had no choice seeing as they like it so, they are all blessed with short term selective memory.
Trinidad will continue to go down hill until they are actually vote in, or are given a government that is willing to take blame and try to help the people, and get them to help themselves.
The current government is using a long-term bribery project to stay in power and buy votes, CEPEP.
The bigger guys know who to bribe, who to take care of and who to BS, this is why they are in power and becoming the elite.
Anyone has anything to say, contact me.
If you voted for PNM or UNC, I am surprised you have the IQ to use the computer |

The New Year has just started! Unless you want a good "Trini" tounge lashing yuh better retract yuh statements!
I imagine Barbadoes is crime free, polloution free, road accident free, no stray or abandon animals in sight, everyone has white picket fences and has dinner at 7:00 pm sharp with tasty flying fish..........
Unless you are living in a bubble under the ocean somewhere - accidents do happen, crime is everywhere in the world (maybe not in Mars as yet), pets will be abandon and become strays, people will kill people, and polloution will be a part of your life....................................... only thing that is all de Flying Fish flying to the lovely waters of Trinidad and Tobago so enjoy it while it lasts! |

Wha happen to you that you putting down Trinidad? We are all from the Caribbean and you should be trying to lift we up not pull we down. The people in Barbados drive crazy too not only there it is just that they have more people that us. We still have stray dogs here but not as much because we call the RSPCA for them because they scatter the garbage all over the place.
Trinidad is not responsible for anyone getting killed. people died in car accident here too as well. look at year before down East coast when tha bus run off the road. You only giving you mout air.
You don't even live in Barbados, yah better stan where you are and don't come back heh. |

I completely agree with Fuyahu and Michael P.
It saddens me that people don't even accept that Trinidad has a problem and that has NOTHING to do with loving and appreciating your country. In fact it is because you love Trinidad so, that you want things to change, and in order for that to happen you have to accept that you have a problem.
And as for the comparisons that people make to Gaza and Iraq - of course we have it easier than countries like that. But is that your benchmark for success? Don't you think that is not exactly aiming too high.
And as for the stray dogs point. A couple of years ago I spent 6 months in the UK and I did not see one stray dog or cat. So no, it is NOT everywhere, but then again what are they benchmarking that against.
As Michael P pointed out the rate of convictions is very low. I think I read about 10% in one paper, and if you add that to the rate of detections, well, one can only imagine why there is no fear of the police or jail time.
We have to stop mixing up accepting problems in our country for lack of patriotism and also the celebration of mediocrity. |
