Guyana is the only English speaking country in South America as it was a British terriory. Therefore historically and politically it identifies itself with the English speaking Caribbean due to similarities (British rule, slave tade etc) and is a member of CARICOM.

as a couple of people mentioned they were under the British rule and are the only english speaking country in south america. and everyone in the Caribbean considers them as part of the west indies. politically and so on are they are considered to be part of the west indies.
