Born and raised and currently living in the Bahamas.
Beautiful place that is often not as admired as it should be by us locals but drooled at by tourists.
While you may encounter rude bahamiams (no point sugarcoating it) you will also encounter people who will go out of their way to help you. I don't know how many times I've helped tourists find their way around.

Its not really necessary to rent a car. Even though cab fares can be expensive, you're almost guranteed that you'll end up spending most days on the beach or at your hotel (Atlantis is the main one, there are several cheaper ones on the Cable Beach strip or I recommend Comfort Suites which is near Atlantis, cheaper but I think you can use Atlantis' features for a minium fee) And when you do leave the hotel it'll probably be to go to Bay Street where you'll wander and shop and eat. Or go to the tourist boat-tour-thing dock where you can go on a Speedboat adventure, Booze cruise, or go to one of the out islands.

Beautiful with its ups and downs like any place, but close to the US (bonus), english speaking...with a bahamian dialect (bonus), cheap acholol (possible bonus), beautiful (big bonus) and a guranteed sun tan/burn.

The Bahamas is just beautiful and underrated. I have been once a year for the past 5 years.

The Bahamas gets its name from the Spanish, baja mar, meaning 'shallow sea'....best snorkeling and diving that I've seen.
