Will I need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico from the U.S. and back?

I heard about the new rules...but do they also apply when you travel to PR? Can I just use my US driver's license for ID? I have asked this many times and I keep getting conflicting answers.
Additional Details
Do they ask people if they are a US citizen? Because I'm a permanent resident. What if I don't want to carry my permanent resident card?

NO! You can use your photo i.d. for the plane. passports are not needed for American citizens to travel to a U.S. territory. see website below and read last sentence under the section titled "SUMMER 2008." It specifically states that American citiens do NOT need passports to trvel to Americn territories.

Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the USA. NO PASSPORT needed. You will need a valid photo ID issued by the government (local or State) A driver's license is perfect as long as it's not expired

enjoy)

nope, you don't need a passport

i just seen the commercial to Puerto Rico and it says that no passport is required.

If you are going, be sure to go to downtown San Juan.....lots of great shops, and there's a place there called Mona's .

The BEST mexican food......gossh i miss puerto rico

The new law require that you use a passport for all travel, be it domestic or international. It was only international for a long time, but now you need a passport for domestic travel as well. Also two forms of ID is your best bet when ever traveling anywhere, and for international flights be sure to be there two hours before departure.

Also you always need your green card/ resident card when traveling overseas, it doesn't matter whethere or not its a commonwealth.

If there is too many conflicting answers, call the airline or immigration and ask them.

If u are a US citizen you do not need a passport. You do need a valid ID to board the plane which is where your Drivers License comes into play! Happy Vacation!

No, Puerto Rico belongs to the US. However, you may need one as an ID to get on the plane. Phone the airline and ask.
